Best over-running clutch

Have a 340 ford I've been playing with for a couple of years. Untold hours and beat up but runs and operates the very best. I also really like the 6x4 transmission. The only thing I don't like is the transmission drive pto. Last summer I put on a $100 t.s. over-running clutch and it twisted it. Put on a removable yellow one from this site this year and it broke it off today. This is running a 5' mower that has never sheared the pin. Wondering if you guys know where to get a better o.r. clutch, or what else could be done. Thanks.

Have used one of these from TSC with no problems. I don't know if you have tried one of these.

Just wondering, I have used several tractors over the years with o/r units on them and have never broke any. Are you putting the pin in it as is required? If not, it can and will slide out to the end of the PTO shaft and will twist off. Keith

Did you shorten the mower driveshaft to make up for the extra length of the overrunning coupler? The extra length will put the driveshaft in a bind, and shear the coupler off or break the shaft,if you raise it too far,or the tractor drops in a hole or ditch

That's the one that twisted. I didn't shorten the shaft yet but it never pushed in or pulled out so didn't worry, will try that next. Thanks.

I think your mower shaft floating yoke is bound up and not flexing. I have the same gold color clutch on my Ford and I use a 6' bush hog. I've been using it for years. The guy at TSC told me the most important things are that the mower shaft slider yoke be very straight, and well lubed. Since the shaft was pretty rusty, I took the inner shaft out of the yoke shaft and sanded the heck out of it, then I greased as best I could and never had any trouble.

I work on CO and NM mtn land with a lot of elevation changes, so the mower tracks up and down quite a bit.

You"ll want one to match your pto horsepower. I bought a heavy duty one from Speeco 10 yeara ago for our Ford 4610 and I use it with our rotary cutter. It was spendy but it is a real heavy duty unit. The tractor has an independent pto but I use ot to save the pto clutch and shaft brake.
