Nick Names......

That post of "how many people actually farm" is quite good. Another question I have is ; how do all of us come up with our names we use on this site? If you care to share? Some are quite interesting! Thanks!
As for me.......I play a banjo! :)

My nickname has caused me a bit of consternation. My last name is Hood. Like Robin, General John Bell, and Car. My problem is that Robin Hood symbolizes my interpretation of the progressive type, or more directly, a redistributionist. "He robbed from the rich and gave to the poor". Not saying that's bad, not trying to start an argument, but I am a conservative. I therefore take credence in a quote from former English Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher that I find applicable: "The trouble with socialism is that, sooner or later, you start to run out of other people's money.

Maybe I should change my nickname to Phleum Pratense. You know what that means, don't you?

Timothy Hood

I would say most of ya know my first name.Last obviuosly starts with a B. I live in Washington state. RB

Mine comes for a number of places.
#1 at one time we had an old pony we called old coal
#2 When I was young I was taught to keep my eyes and ears open and to only open my mouth if I had a question so learned a lot of stuff from people who where a lot older then I am and most are long since in the ground
So the name comes from the fact I learned from old people and the old pony we had.

Mine comes from a car I owned, with an engine most don't think existed. It was a 1967 Pontiac LeMans with the Sprint 6 package. Had a factory Quadrajet on the Overhead Cam Six. Would go like nobodie's business with a 7000 rpm redline.

I also have a 1947 (late) with a 5 window cab! I have it torn down to "bare bones" for a complete restoration. Know where I can get some fenders (reasonable)?

I had to come up with a name. I have several Indian Motorcycles. One is my 1937 Indian Chief, or 37Chief. If I had it to do over I would have used 37Allis. I have a few old Allis Chalmers tractors. Stan

I came up with Oleclint because I mite be one of the older guys that look on here every day. Hooked the ole to my name: clint. If things go well for me I will be 80 this Dec. clint

CCer is short for Clover Creek er. Google Clover Creek Pa. We live in the village, and near the stream. Years ago, Clover Creek er's were known for their strong German work ethic, it was said that locals were hired at the Pennsylvania Railroad simply because they were Clover Creek er's

Always looking for Case tractors as I drive this great country of ours. Kind of like an old hound dog, always sniffing around!

I live in the Loantaka section of the township. It means "place of the cold winter". Liked it and figured it was more unique than my actual nickname of Lou. I lived in colder places so it must have been relative to the surrounding area.

Goose was my nickname in the Marine Corps. It's a takeoff from my last name. It was used so commonly in the Corps that both officers and enlisted men I'd known for a year or more would ask me what my first name really was.

I've used it as a CB handle and for other purposes over the years. My wife's CB handle was "Mother Goose".

bmack (Bruce MacKenzie)518n ('51 8N). Started out on the Ford forum, found this one later, like them both.

In a way it is a self anointment for me. Back in the early 70's With Dad on the farm in North Dakota, most folks were going away from plowing. Dad had 2 John Deere R's with four bottom plows and pony drills behind. We planted about 450 acres every sping that way. We had a neighbor a few miles down the road who refered to us as plowboys. Only on this site and Stovebolt do I use it. In honor of my Dad too. We were plowboys, Dad and I.

Mine is easy. I sold JD equipment. My email has been JD Seller for close to 20 years, so I just used it here as my handle.

I am from the Finger Lakes region in New York and an IH 986 was the first tractor I owned on my own.

Given name initials are R W, at 3 days old home from the hospital next door neighbor said i look like a "Pete" and i been a Pete every since. On another note, dad served in the European Theatre during WWII with a very close friend, my given name is in honor of him, however, dad always call me Pete.

Although I live just south of the Adirondacks in upstate NY, We have strong ties to a lot of people who live in the southern Adrondacks. My Grandfather became a Case dealer in 1932, and I was born into a Case family and Holstein dairy farm. The handle fit.

I've always been partial to 2 cyl John Deere tractors, and I'm 71 yrs old........therefore Old Popper.

My name is John and I used to be a farmer. I was very close to my grandfather growing up and his favorite story from the reader when he attended the one room schoolhouse was called "Farmer John" so I picked that name to honor him.

i collect rusty red original international tractors. new paint on an old tractor is a turn off. unless its meticulously done and not a three dressed up as a nine.

Lol, my first car was a 67 firebird with the same engine on a 2spd automatic trany. Sweet car with no top end I could find. No takeoff tho. I had it over 70 mph in low gear.

My last name is McCurley. Old timer I sawmilled with always called me Mac when I was a young feller. Name sorta stuck. I live in Arkansas, so Mac AR.

Had a cousin that used to call me Dutch, something to do with being "tighter than a Dutchman". Unfortunately that handle was taken when I joined. Kinfolks still call me that sometimes.

Mac

My name is Don. Teddy is my wife's nickname. She was 52 when we got a computer. She works in a food processing plant on turkeys.

Grayrider,
I took this nickname because of my family history of several ancestors serving in the Confederate Calvary

K Effective is the variable used to express the ratio of the number of neutrons of a generation following the fission of the neutrons of the previous generation. It is calculated by a formula with six different factors, (most Navy nukes have a really good mnemonic to remember them), and the result tells one if the reaction is critical, or not.

I earn my wages as an operator at a nuclear power plant, to help fund my farming fetish and pay college tuitions.

Additionally, my last name starts with K, and many folks find me quite Effective in accomplishing tasks. It fit, and was a little inside as well. I started using it on a sports radio message board before I joined here.

In 1959, I was allowed to drive a Tractor as long as I had control of it. "JOHN DEERE D" was easy for me to handle as it had a Hand operated Clutch. I pulled two tandem Wagons loaded with Wheat Sheaves up to the Thrashing machine.

Bob...North Western Alberta Canada....

I am dcc1
My son is dcc2
His son is dcc3

If you just use the middle "c", I am 6, then 7, then 8.

Farmed with an old 8N back in the day because that's what I could afford. Still like the Fords. Have an 861 and 5610.

I was trying to figure out a little more about a couple family JD tractors I was trying to get running, but I didn't want anyone to think I know anything! Thus, JDNewbie. It helped. Everyone typed r e a l s l o w for me!

My given name is William C Miller but have always been called
Billy C. A friend started calling me BC years ago thus the handle
"old bc"

My parents nicknamed me Fred years ago. Real name is Ed,same as my Dad's. Both worked at Case dealership Grandpa started and after numerous trips to the phone for the wrong Ed decided something had to change. More people know me by my nickname than my real name.Named my boy Evan and he is the 8th generation with the initials EBG.

You have those, too.....? Nasty things around here. Lots of berries, but you'll loose a pint trying to pick them....

mine came when I knocked my right eye out when a piece of steel flew off a track pin hammer while working on a dozer. one eye works, the other is dead, so Deadeye. the 123 is because Deadeye was taken when I joined.

Live in Indiana so the IN.

Mine is probably a given but in case you didn't guess it I spend all my money on Oliver's. Don't seem to be able to pass them up. I have some other tractors but I bought them cuz they were cheap.

Got called "Duke" in the Air Force Basic Training because some of my buddies thought I looked like the Duke of Windsor (big nose, small chin)......"Dukester" is just an extension I guess.
