Has anyone changed the bar bearings on a nh rake?

We have a NH 56 rollabar rake and one bearing is completely shot. Got the old one off with the torch new one fitted in the socket but can't get the bolt to line up with the hole. The other end won't loosen willingly and it's not worn too badly. Is the only way to do it is to have both ends off at once and put them both back on at once? The only other option I see is cut a slot in the plate so I can slide it in place as there's an extra plate on the back that goes on when you tighten the nut but I'm thinking that's not a great option.

If its close to the same as a 256, im pretty sure it is....you loosen the bolts that hold the "star" wheel on to its hub (the wheel at each end the bars bolt into) loosen that up (cant remember if just one end or both) and they go in. Takes two people, and kinda akward, but it does go together.

Did that on a NI rake. Have to loosen other bearings on all 4 (5l) bars as well as reel bearings. Have even resorted to parking tractors on either side of rake and using them as anchors and using come-alongs to pull basket apart. Have also bowed the bar and straightened it after installing. Not an easy job - they just don't go together without a fight. On my NI, I found that factory bearings, are pricy. A 3/4 carrage bolt, a washer as a spacer and a common bearing can be used as a replacement. Square head on bolt will have to be ground off and washer drilled out, but is far as price, far cheaper, ans seem to hold up about as well as favtory.

DO not slot the end plate!!! It will not be a ridged as needed after you do that. You have to loosen all the bar bearing bolts on the one star. Then you can rock the star enough to get the one you replaced reinstalled. Just takes some time. I would check them all out as the labor to replace them is already done.

Thank you for the replies! Got it with a combination of a bunch lol I unbolted the gear box so it would slide in through the hole. Then I used come alongs to the center of the bar pulling it tight against the basket, used a set of fence pullers and long pry on the end than it popped it.
