Ford 3000 electronic ignition problem

I Got a pertronix ignition for my 3000 and installed per the instructions.It starts and runs for 2 seconds and dies.I
called pertronix tech and they said if I have solid core plug wires it won't work right and could damage the module.I
just replaced the plug wires this spring with ones from YT.I know the wires are connected right or it would not
start.The magnet is seated on the dist.shaft but the dust cover will not fit down all the way.Pertronix said thro it
away I don't need it.Also I could barely get a piece of paper between the magnet and the module.

Well, .........are they solid core or not???!

If so, you need to replace them with a resistor core wire set. As Pertronix says, Stainless steel core(or any other solid metal core) wires are not to be used with Pertronix ignition systems.
 
So If I am reading this right your HAVE solid core wires but do not want to change them because they are "new"???? Well I have used pertronix solid state units for a lot of years. They have ALWAYS stated you needed resistant wires for them to fire correctly. So you have two choices: 1) Change the plug wires to resistant wires. 2) Put the points back on it and keep your solid wires.

Trying to run it with the solid core wires will ruin the module. You may already have anyway.
 
I would change my wires if Pertronix said so, I've got 4 tractors that I swapped over to electronic ignition, no problems with them...
