I have a 1971IH454 I have fire to the points but no fire to the plugs, I have checked cap rotor and all wires and they all test good, thank you for any help you can give me.

Turn engine until points are open, turn key on,pull coil wire from center of cap and hold near engine block then quickly short circuit across points with screwdriver a few times fast as possible. If you get spark from coil wire, change or file points. If no spark from coil wire, post back.

It can take an extra 5000 volts just to jump the gap between the rotor and pole inside the cap. Are you sure you have enough
spark? What happens when you stick a test spark-plug in the coil wire instead of a pug wire and bypass the rotor?

I have taken a ohms meter and ohmed everything and it all test good.

Heres my complete Ignition Troubleshooting Procedure, if you work through it you can often (NOT always) find the cause of no spark. Often points that are burned or corroded or mis gapped are the cause of an ignition problem which a good clean/buff/polish of the surfaces might cure.

With the points closed and distributor cap off do this. Turn on the ignition and open the points by hand. When you do that you should both hear and see a spark. No spark means the points need to be cleaned.

Did everything include condenser? If your meter is analog, set to it's highest rang, disconnect condenser wire, when you touch one lead to cond case and other to wire reading should quickly read high on scale then slowly drop. Reverse leads and reading should do the same. If it doesn't,the cond is defective. It's easier to just change condenser but vanity wan't let some of us throw even inexpensive parts at problems. :)

. Well I have tried everything you guys have suggested just short of putting the plug into the coil wire if I had a wife I'd get her to hold it, still nothing, I have fire to the points and no farther.

I want to thank everyone for their input, y'all have been a lot of help, I replaced the condenser and it runs like new now, was beginning to think it was that John Deere mower hooked up to a IH. Again thank you to everyone.
