My neighbor has a Yardman 42 in lawn tractor, hydro drive, it starts and runs but will not move, does anyone know where to ad the oil for the hydro? I do not see a filler plug, any other ideas what my be wrong?thanks for any help

I had a JD mower that did that. There was a lever that you could accidentally trip & not notice. This lever placed it in neutral even tho the selector showed it being in gear.

There is no place to add oil. It should have a "release" lever to allow the mower to be pushed without the engine running. On most of the cheap brand mowers. The lever is a bent rod you push in or pull out on the back of the mower. You may have to get down on your knees and look under the rear of the mower.

On a hydro mower I had (not a Yardman), the release lever was under the seat, on top of the hydro unit.

The "clutch" has to be in to start the mower. The linkage sometimes get rusted it up and the brake will not release. Take the right rear wheel off and check. Should release with light tapping.

Recently worked on a neighbor's 42 inch Craftsman. It worked when he parked it in shed. Sounds funny right? So I had him pull it out of shed. Discovered the fuse fell out when he parked it. Simple fix, but then hydrostat wouldn't work.

My JD 275 has a filter and a way to change hydro fluid, but the cheapie mowers don't. I googled how to change fluid. Discovered the only way to change fluid on cheapie is to remove hydro, turn it upside down and drain fluid out vent hole on top. Then measure how much oil your drain and add that much new. Final step is to purge air out of the pump.

So I decided to jack up one side rear wheel. Had neighbor start mower, put it in forward while I turned the rear wheel forward. Rear wheel slowly started moving. Had neighbor put it in reverse, I moved tire backward. After doing that a few times, we got the air out of pump. Now it works like it should.

Possible when neighbor pulled it out of shed, he didn't have tranny rod pulled out causing the problem. So now it's running when last used.

We have a Snapper and Husqvarna, both with hydro

Roll release on both is on lower rear by the left back wheel. One side for drive, other side to manual roll.

lots of the new ones don't have a way to drain or fill, they are sealed units, even some john deeres are sealed units
