Wheel Horse

I have a Wheel Horse 518-H that I bought a year ago last spring Last august I took the deck off to replace blades and now I cannot figure out how to get it back on. Tried to get manual with no luck. I need to get the weeds in my barnyard cut. I also use it for moving machinery. Can somebody tell me how it mounts. The front part I think I have figured out but where-how does the lift lever connect up. Hand lift. Going to put this on garden tractor and implement as well, it is a farm use tractor to me.

It's been a while, but, put your lift lever forward (lower position) and slide your mower under the tractor. You might have to lift the linkage some, but there is a pin on the end of the lift link that slides into the linkage. Latching the mower in the front connector, put the belt on and tighten the mule drive to where the belt is springy but not too tight and you're done.....

Pin on the lift link that slides into the linkage, I cannot figure out where that pin goes. If I put it where I think it goes that sets the deck to far off to the side for the rest to hook up.

Look for a slot in the lift linkages. Put the pin through this slot, then line up the tach-o-matic and hook it up. I used to use the lift to help hook up the tach-o-matic in place. Then, like I said, hook up your belt and go....

Here goes, 65 second installation starting with a spare deck on the wall and pictures of interest on my tractor. Slide the deck over the lift pin, then second pict. where thumb is up into attachimatic while raising the deck lever locking it in/ be sure to slip a flat washer and hairpin where that link goes through the mower slot or you'll bust the center grease zerk off. 65 seconds or less/ no tools needed.

Thanks for the pictures. That helps pinpoint my question. There is the strap over the top of the pulley and it has a slot in, then the other strap that is connected to the depth control wheels on the deck also has an identical slot in. So I cannot get it to align up trying to get it in the one on top of the pulley and I cannot get it into the other one so witch strap and slot do I use. Then the piece your thumb is on where does it go to? I am used to the Cub Cadets but both of mine have engine problems. But that is an entirely different way of mounting.

Where in that 65 second tutorial do you see that guy screwing with the depth wheels? In the 10 second pict. in from the guy's thumb you can see the slot and the pin, slide the deck in 3 inches and on the pin/ might have to pull your lift lever a hair/ then in the 30 sec. pict. the fork my thumb was on goes straight up in the belly attachomatic/ no lifting involved, just pull the lever while you guide it in and flip the cam lever. You ain't trying to do this standing straight up are you? / might have to get on the hands and knees but the 65 seconds is plenty of time to put that deck on and drink half a beer.

What I was saying about the depth wheel is if it is the slot in the strap hooked to them or the slot that is over the pulley that the pin goes in. Over the pulley looks like it should be the one but when I try that it sets the deck too far to the left to get anything ligned up. The one that hooks to the depth wheel I could not get the pin in so what slot for the pin do I use, the one over the pulley or the one to the left that is connected to the depth wheels? If I could just remember what slot that pin goes in then the rest probably will come.

For one thing that's about 28 years old, ought to be able to easily see a wear pattern in the slot/ was kinda hoping you'd be done by now and have time to help me get one of mine back together/ painted the parts to the engine this morning early and then every knat in the tri state area showed up,GRRRR.

I finally got it hung on tractor this morning. Now still have to put on the belt. If I get down on the ground I have to have a way to pull myself up as I cannot get up otherwise. I don't have enough strength to lift the deck. So on my overhead track that I have 2 chain hoists on I ended up hooking one on each side of the deck to pull it up in place then took two long prybars to get the front latch in place so it would lock. Altogether about 5 hours to get the deck hung. Has to get it hung so I could use the tractor to pull a wagon out of where it sat so I could take it to its new owner this afternoon. Getting close to 74 and not in good health. This chain hoist system is what I use to work on these hay rakes. The chain holding deck up just a bit is what I used to pull myself up off the ground. The tractor and deck do not show much ware.

Good, you got her done but sure did it the hard way/ just slide that deck over the lift pin, line that front cross brkt. straight up with the latch and push the lift lever back/ no lifting involved.

FYI,
A friend used to have a wheel horse. Engine blew up and he got rid of the garden tractor, but he still has the tiller. Yesterday I helped work on the shed roof and I saw the tiller sitting outside. He plans to clean out the shed and get rid of all the junk he has collected over the years. If you are interested, I'll see what his plans are for tiller. He hasn't used it in years. He lives in Brazil, In.

No mater what I tried I was always still 4" to low on the deck for any place on the tractor for hooking up. I know the sales lituratur says easy to hook up but I have not found that. I have a packet of new sales liturature never opened for the Wheel Horse line from that time, If somebody would like a copy of it let me know.

Geo, if it was 10 years ago I would have been interested but not now. I haven't had a garden for years now as I could no longer do it after heart bypass 5 times and bad back and at that time I was also waiting on surgery for a rotator cuff. I am right handed and I think it was close to 4 years after the shoulder was worked on before I could get my arm up to comb my hair. My legs still don't want to work as should after they took the veins out for my chest.

1966 Lawn Ranger/had it since about 1978 and trying to stop breaking out in a sweat when ever I see on for sale.

Surprised you don't have that tiller adapted to a Terramite, they work nice, think they cost around $1200 15 or 20 years ago. Mine lives on what started out to be a 1968 Raider combined with a 1969 GT14 and something else. Tiller was pure junk I put new brgs. and seals in plus the tine shaft welded up at the machine shop plus some creative cobbling in the case and a plastic General Motors battery hold down converted to a chain idler.

I have a John Deere gt275 with 30 inch counter rotating tiller. Don't use it much. Neighbor insists on tilling my garden when he tills his with a 55 hp massey, 5 ft tiller. He tills garden faster than it would take me to remove mover deck and install tiller.

I do have a 6 ft disk and two bottom plow for Jubilee I could use too.

After sand and compost was tilled in this spring, I used terramite to pile up some dirt at each end of garden for potatoes. That has worked out great. Very easy to dig up a few potatoes when needed. So terramite does see some garden use.

I would hate to see friends tiller go to the scrap pile if someone could use it. I have no need for it.
