Craigslist find?!

Based on this craigslist ad...is this a deal?
It looks like a 408 (older).

I am familiar with haybines...when it says "the cutterbar broke". How fixable is it?

At that price is it feasible to rebuild everything?

Just curious..,
NH discine

I'm not terribly familiar with this discbine so I'm puzzled by the phrase that the "cutterbar broke." No disc mower or moco that I am familiar with has a "cutterbar." I'd have to look it over pretty carefully to see what it actually needs, but if it can be brought into operating condition without prohibitive expense and it fits your need, then I'd pursue it further.

That's what I was wondering. The term cutterbar is something I associate with a sickle-based unit. But I have never really looked under the hood of a discbine. No need to tease myself when I have 2 haybines that do the job and have been paid for longer than I have been alive.

A neighbor has a gehil conditioner and is a disk type. Really neat how it works and he runs his tractor right to the stops. He showed me how it works under the hood. He said they hit a rock with it. He also said that whole big thing under there is a gear box. Also said you don't want to know what that box cost.

I went and read the listing . I wondered what they ment about a broken bar. Now I can tell you that is the gear box I was talking about. Parts yes. Scrap price ONLY!!!!! Don't touch it . That thing should go from one side of the machine to the other....not bent to crap underneath. Nuff said.

Look at the pics the casting that holds the gears for the turtles is busted. Do not buy it for anything other than parts. That is the most expensive cutterbar there is to work on. I had two different ones and even my NH dealer said get rid of it no matter what color you buy. Tom

I used one of those until two years ago. It is across the road from me now. Before that I had one of the belt drive Gehls. I went and got the NH when a bearing in the header went out when I started it for the first time that season. A young friend bought it, and had it in the field in one day. I bet that he would weld up this NH and have it going in two days.
