I took some things to donate to the local thrift shop. I got there, and forgot a few things. I returned with what I forgot. I spotted a well built free standing fan. No plastic, I figure it must be an old US made fan. a little rusted on the grill, but for 10.00. I get it home Made in china. It does work. Sand blasted and painted the fan grill. I was holding the fan blade using my small hand held wire wheel, I tore the skin off the end of one finger. I got the blood stopped, and finished painting blade. Worked on the chrome base until it really shined. I put it all back together.I take my fan in the house to show the wife what a good bargain I found. Plug it in, it's too noisy she says. So my grand daughter is taking it to college in Arizona, where it will be appreciated. Stan

I bought one of those China made 24 inch fans to circulate the wood heat from my wood-burner. On high speed the dang thing would not stay upright. It kept blowing itself over...too much wind force.

How about changing the angle or curve to the blades? Less air movement, but if it will stand up on high speed, it may work better.

Before you let it out of the house....does it have sealed bearings or oilite bronze busings in the motor? Put a few drops of turbine oil on those bronze bushings!!

Maybe SDE has a viable vane turbo wheel out of an old 6.0 Super Duty that he will give you a deal on, LOL.

Hello Greg1959,

Why not take a minute and check the blades? One must be WAY out, not only in Height but also on pitch. A little heat can make them closer. Worth a try?

Guido.

The blades are metal, attached to an iron hub. The fan looks like a water pump fan, The blades are not bent. The noise is just the air moving, and the hum of the motor. stan
