Probably cooked the relay for the solenoid. There are 2 relays mounted on the firewall just to the left of the master cyl. It will be the closest one to the master cyl. Can buy at Napa for about $15.00. Swap it for the one next to it and see if that works. I carry a spare in my trucks just for that reason.

Yes you can run a choke cable to the fuel shutoff and it will work . Go to www..genosgarage.com they have an reasonably priced replacement solenoid . Also www.tdr1.com For more info

With the key on reach down and pull up on the solenoid linkage and see if it will stay up, if it will check the fuseable wire going from the relay to the battery, if its ok replace to relay.
If the solenoid won't stay up check #9 fuse in the fuse box, I believe it powers the hold circuit.

The little red wire that hooks to the hot battery cable on the drivers side gets crappy that is the power to the solenoid.

Yes put a pull cable on it. It was designed for one the selanoid was an afterthought. They tend to cause problems with the mounting bracket bolts losening up and striping out the threads.
