Ferguson TO 30 started running rough

Hi Folks
I have an issue with my Ferguson TO30.
It started bogging down and running very rough while I was bush hogging with it, I was barely able to get it out of the field. It will
run smoothly for a bit and then rough as a cob.

It had been rained on, but that had never been much of an issue before. At any rate I drained the gas and no better, still rough. Friend
of mine said maybe the coil had gotten too hot (we had done the 12v conversion last year) I put a new coil on it and it runs just the
same.

Replaced the plugs, which looked really dark and flooded and no difference. Now the new plugs look just like the others did, dark and
flooded.

I put the multi tester on it and the voltage seems good out of the coil, but I'm still not getting a super strong blue spark out of it.

I lightly sanded the points and rotor and it seemed to improve for a second or two, but as soon as I tried to drive it, it was back to
being very under-powered and will not idle.

Trash in the carb?

Any thoughts?

I appreciate the help.
Thanks,
WAMcGee

You may have a electrical issue if you do not have a strong blue spark but the thing that caught my eye was when you said.....

I think I would start with trying to find out why the plugs look dark and flooded.
Air restriction in intake filter
Trash in carb causing needle valve to stick.
Other carb issues.

Thanks for the reply.

I pulled the air canister off and all looks fine in there. Replaced the oil.

Then we swapped the resistor and that seemed to clean it up a bit. It will at least run now, bit still seems under powered and almost like it has a miss in it, but I cant seem to find any one cylinder that is missing.

I swear it sounds like it's about to run out of gas... Could there be water or trash in the carb?

Always trouble shoot then parts NEVER parts then trouble shoot.
#1 check that you have a good blue/white spark at the center wire of the distributor cap and at all 4 plug wires that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. If you have that go to #2 if you do not have that check that the points are gaped as they should be and that when you open the points by hand with the ignition on you get a good spark that you can both see and hear.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in under 3 minutes. And yes catch the gas to look for dirt/water etc.
#3 does choking it hurt or help?? If it hurts then your running to rich if it helps your running to lean. If running rich try running it with out the air cleaner hooked up. If that helps the air cleaner is clogged. If it does not help try putting your hand over the air intake while it is running and do your best not to let it die when you do that. Doing that may pull what ever maybe clogging the carb out and clear it up
