The Ford sits in the shed with the doors closed.I have been sick for a while,,,and sure am missing it.The best time of year and my tractor sits,It just kind of hits me hard.

Go out and just sit on it for a bit if you can. Recalling fond moments can be good therapy. Hang in There! Ben

Larry, we got a man in our church that was diagnosed about the same time as you were with similar cancer, only he's got two different ones going on at the same time. I pray for you both every time I bend a knee and will continue to do so until you're both in remission. One thing that has come out of this is my doctor has been after me to get a long overdue screening done, the one nobody likes to prepare for, which turned negative cept for a few polyps. All that to say this, Thank you for the swift kick in the rear to get mine looked at. DP

A lot is going to depend on your frame of mind in the months to come, Larry. Keeping a positive attitude is important. Enjoy this summer in a different way, but make it good. Think about getting that tractor out next year. Keep working toward the things you will do when you get better. I have had friends and clients with your illness. All got very ill. All got very depressed. All are still with us. Tough time, but they made it.

I have been disabled since 1993. At 1st I still could get on & drive. I now have 10 running tractors & can't get on any of them. I still do reloading & wood turning projects. Keep busy at a hobby & keep your mind off the bad stuff.

Next time you feel well enough to pull weeds let em grow and go drive a lap around the yard on the ol' tractor. It's called Ford therapy! Good for the soul. Above all stay positive. Praying for you.

I don't know how you do it Larry. I wouldn't last a month in your condition. When I couldn't walk for two weeks last summer I was sitting here so depressed that I was ready to start selling off the tractors I don't need to farm with.

You're definitely a better man than I am. You'll make it back out there on it.

When my dad got to an age where he could not drive a tractor. I would help him on to one and start it up. When he sat in the house and could not make it out I would start up that John Deere G and let it run next to the house. It made him feel good to hear it run (that was his words). I mess my dads words and attitude. You old guys who grew up on farms and maybe still are farming. You some times have those words with the attitude behind it that tells use to keep on. I was about ready one day to have my older Sister and Brother to get dad to sell all his older tractors but then I had to realize after mom past on that was the only thing dad cared about (life style). Keep on trying think positive and if you can have some body start up a tractor bring up to your house and listen to it run. The best way to go in life enjoy it while you can. Get well okay.

Larry, I was unable to run any of my equipment for over a year. Am finally able to run it this year. Hang in there and go take pics for all of us.

Three years ago I was a week out of prostate surgery with 3 weeks of recovery to go and we were in the middle of our busy produce season. At the time I didn't know how we were going to survive it, but we did. Hang in there, things will get better!

When I was laid up after spine surgery
I found some hobbies on the internet to pass the time. Need to replace any bulbs or small parts on that tractor ? You could order the parts now. My coin collecting was kind of dormant. I ordered some approvals to look at and some rolled coins to sort through. I also found some old magazines I enjoyed. Anyone out there have some old farm or tractor material. Larry's got cabin fever and needs something to fill the long hours. I did not like being home alone. I was grateful for the dog's company and always looked forward to my wife coming home. You'll be back out there soon putting around on that tractor. I hope the time passes quickly for you. You remain in all of our thoughts and prayers.

Larry, I hope you can at least get out there and start it up occasionally. Maybe keep a battery tender on it so there aren't unexpected problems when you do get to run it.

Hang in there, it will happen!

It seems like when we are laid up, all of a sudden those jobs we were ignoring when we were well are now on the top of the list. Then we sit there and brood about it. The one salvation you have right now is you can chat with us while you are sitting around not feeling well. We (the YT community, and you) will keep each other entertained through this ordeal. Marilyn and I have been helping her sister make it through cancer treatments and surgeries for three years now. After being around her situation I know why they put the word 'survivor' in the term Cancer survivor.

Have you heard of genomic testing and treatment for cancer? It's something new and so far not totally proven but it seems to be working for Marilyn's sister. The doctors who were treating her conventionally had told her to get her affairs in order after her breast cancer came back for the third time. Her other sister works at a cancer center where they do this genomic testing and she suggested to give it a try. In genomic treatments they test a person's genes and then mix up a chemo just for that person. After going through chemo made just for her for nine months or so, blood tests show only a fraction of one percent of the cancer is still there and the scans show nothing. I'm not saying you should try this method but it can be another shot at it if conventional chemo isn't cutting it. Good luck.

I'm having back surgery in July for a herniated disc. I can't drive a tractor for about two months and doing next to nothing the whole time in between .it sure is going to be a long two months

Nothing wrong with taking anti-depression medicine to help you through these tough times and when you are better stop using them. Would be best to discuss with your doc.

Hang in there buddy. I have been slowed down several times over the years. A broken hip and appendicitis. Six weeks on crutches twice for the hip and about the same time from appendicitis. I found other things to do that I could do. Keep busy at the easier stuff to keep your mind occupied.
Two things come to mind. Ken Kesey's book "Sometimes a Great Notion" where pa Stampers motto is "Never Give A Goldarned Inch". (the name of the movie)
And the movie "Galaxy Quest" with Tim Allen where he says "Never Give Up Never Surrender".

I sure hope these don't make you miss your tractor even more! I think of you every time I walk out to the garden. The Drs. told me 15 yrs. ago I had a 50/50 chance of making it 5 yrs., I still have lot I want and need to do! HANG IN THERE. All the rain sure hurt the show turn out.

June 1981 I had a compound fracture and dislocated left ankle, eight days in the hospital, two more weeks in bed and don't think I could drive for another couple weeks or more. Seventeen weeks off work total. Fortunately for me my neighbor had a big Cat dozer buried to the top of the tracks and I'd ride my garden tractor over every day for a couple of hours and watch him try to get it out. After I could drive and was off the pain pills I'd take my Corvette for a ride every day, just bought the car a few months before I got hurt. You never know, I ended up marrying one of my nurses, anything can happen.

Probably of no consolation, but one of the reasons we take so many pics and videos is one of these days when whatever gets me down, I'm looking forward to having those old pics and videos to proudly look at and watch. You've probably taken and posted more pics than anyone on this forum. Between my pics/vids and YouTube videos and other forum pics, it's really nice IMHO to have a window to look out. I've got an uncle who farmed pretty much his whole life. He can hardly walk across the room due to old age. He doesn't use a computer and has no internet. What a wealth of info he has and could share if he were plunged in.

Maybe you can't use your tractor right now, but live it through your great pics!

Hope you are on the mend sooner than later.

Bill
