School Me on Die Handles/Wrenches!

Afternoon everyone!

I'm trying to find a decent die wrench for use with 2" OD dies and 1.5" dies. I'm managed to break both "chinesium" ones I've had, and prospects for a quality replacement arent looking good. I've tried about every brand I know, researching online, and it seems like all of these companies offer the same exact ones I broke (but in their colors), or nothing at all.

Are any of the "metric" wrenches compatible with SAE dies? I might have to order a replacement from Europe or something. IDK. Useful input welcome..

I've had a Ridgid die set for 40+ yrs., never had a issue. If you can find a old set, they are bullet proof.

Google Tap and Die handles. many to choose from. Greenlield, Hanson, and others (used is best) I have used quality handles for taps and dies for 55 years and naver broken one. The imports are probably a risk in both strength, and quality of cutting tool. A dull or improperly created cutting edge and steel will cause rough threads, excessive force, and breakage. It is also imperative that the item being threaded is able to be cut. Chrome plating or grade 8 hardness will ruin the day. Jim

Screw it, I'll just make my own! I've ordered a drop of 1080 CRS which I'll lathe out, and weld on some 3/4" steel bar handles... It will be a fun video... Thanks Richard and everyone else!!

Ditto, Ridgid is good stuff. Sold my kit a couple of years ago to a plumber/gasfitter pal - he was/is still happy !

Look on fleabay and get pipe style threading tools on a project that big. Ridgid is good but Reed or Oster are just as good. Pipe tools can all be made to thread bolt size threads with the proper die in it. The old timers made all the hanger rods from round stock and put a bolt thread on each end.

Matco (tool truck)used to carry a Life Time warranty on taps and dies. I suppose they still do.

Bore out a piece of round stock and weld an old socket for use with a breaker bar. Make it about 3' long and you can thread U bolts. Ron Mn
