Do foxes kill fawns?

I've seen several newborn whitetail fawns around the edge of the woods this week, and one doe in particular that I see often has a pair of them. This morning while sitting on the front porch I heard a fox crying very loudly for a long time along the creek. Shortly after I saw a doe running away out of the woods from where the fox was with just one of her fawns. I did not have a chance to see if the one fawn had been killed by something.

Have to wonder ... do Red Foxes prey on fawns?

Foxes do prey on small game and scavage whatever else....including fruit and human trash. Quite omnivorous animals. I see no reason they couldn't take down a small fawn. Usually solitary hunters though and cautious

I would consider it more likely a coyote killed the fawn.

I would think a fox would probably not kill a fawn, a coyote would, fox would scavenge or go after smaller game like rodents.

A deer would probably still run away if startled by fox.

Do you have coyotes there? I have been told if you have coyotes, you probably won't have many fox around as coyotes kill fox!

Coyotes must not be around, we have foxes everywhere here. I have seen maybe 1 in 20 years. I think there are more coyotes to the west of me. I have seen them in West Virginia.

A couple weeks ago, after dark when I went to feed, I saw a coyote in the back yard. Turned on the flood lights and there were three does standing about 35 yards away watching the coyote. The coyote ran to the front of the house and the three does followed. When the coyote came to the back yard again, the three does ran after the coyote and chased it. The does acted like they were trying to herd the coyote. I suspect they were trying to keep the coyote away for a fawn.
We use to have a number of foxes here but few are left as the coyotes have taken over.

Red Foxes will kill baby goats so I'd imagine they would kill fawns, lots of both in my area so I don't think Coyotes kill Foxes but something must have cleaned up the
skunks never see them around anymore.

We have fox, coyote AND timber wolf in the area - and plenty of each! Saw a bear on the way home yesterday also.

Heading into town yesterday morning, wife and I saw a doe running ahead of is in a field. We slowed down to watch as it looked like she was being chased by dogs. Got closer and realized the first "dog" was actually a bambi, but the other must surely be a dog from the way it's running. Nope...no....it was also a bambi. They must have been very recently born as their legs were still quite short, more like that of a dog.

Is not unusual for us to have multiple does that will come onto our place to give birth this time of year, as the predators seem to be leery of us. I remember about 5 years back having a bear come up in the field. Just two days before we had seen a doe who was acting.....strange, then we realized she had just given birth. That same year another doe came up and gave birth just 200' from the house, in plain sight of the main window. I can only guess that she saw signs farther out that forced her to accept the risk of us vs. being out farther, more exposed to bear or other. She ended up staying there for nearly two weeks, as she found out we were actually watching her back! I believe it was this same doe that kept coming back here other years. But then, nothing. Haven't seen her again, so we think a hunter finally got her. ...Not to fear, there's only about 30 gazillion more to take her place!!

Somebody posted a video of a red fox dragging a fox in New Jersey last week. Fox was not big enough to carry the fawn and I
guess can't say for sure it actually killed a healthy fawn. Red fox came to my place awhile back and grabbed one our big
chickens and couldn't handle that either. Chicken eventually got away.

Well I know red Bush Hogs kill em :(

Don't be so sure. I've seen a coyote go after a wounded fox several times during hunt. The coyote seem more intent on the kill then in our presence. Eventually coyotes will displace fox on an area.

They don't really take them down they jump them while they are lying down.Foxes have no problem killing a full grown turkey on the nest that'll put up a pretty good fight,a real young fawn can't
put up any fight at all.
