Hay is done.

Ok, so I don't put up much anymore. About a thousand bales or so a year. But it still feels good to be done. Next is second cut if we get any rain. Amazing how we went from wet to dry in about 2 weeks.

Wish I was done with first cutting but the weather guessers have been calling for rain for the next 5 or so day so no cutting hay right now. I did get some done last week but the first day I cut I got rained out and soaking wet before I got back to the house

Yes, Weather forecast week of Memorial Day, gave me a four day window. Mowed on Sunday, raked and baled Wednesday. Rain went away til today. Got a fat quarter today, but still to be in the ninety's. gobble

I'm almost, but not quite hardly half done. I spread fertilizer today on what I have done. I got .35 inch of rain yesterday morning and the same this morning. Looks like a pretty slim chance of rain the next two days, but Saturday looks like a fair chance again. I can find something to do until Monday I guess, then I'll hit it hard again.

Done, must be nice. I just got started with a little over 200 today and was it ever hot. Just me and SWIMBO and we get around 1500. We tent to get a lot of rain in June and this is about the earliest I ever got started. Last year didn't cut till July 4.

It's a good feeling isn't it? Here in the Midwest getting first cutting hay up without rain is a unusual feat.

Happy for you. I hope to be done hay by Thanksgiving. Got 2000 in the barns, only 11,000 to go and the weather forecasts say forget mowing for a week.

I wish...about the time the hay got ready to mow, it started raining.

Was out at 11pm (round)baling the other night, figured a little dew was better than rained on

I'm about 20% done

Fred

Finished up baling first cut Sunday, 595 4x5 rolls so far, down about 15% from last years yield.
Have about 20-30 acres of prairie grass to cut around the end of the month, that should get me the 800+ rolls I'll need for winter feeding. Would like to have some extra in case of dry weather like last fall, ended up feeding 150 rolls during Sept, Oct last year when pastures dried up.

My supplier just put second cutting in my barn. Nice stuff. I bought his fourth cutting from last year earlier in the year and hoping he gets a third cut this year, otherwise I'll probably run out again in Feb. or March. It's been wet all around us but has been dry here.
