Tire & Rim size confusion (Ford 850)

I’m replacing the rear tires and one rim/loop on my Ford 850. I plan on reusing the other rim.

Currently one tire is 12x28, and the other side has one marked 13.6x28 (though it is also noted on the tire it is for a 12” rim and a replacement for 12x28).

I’m still waiting on the new tires to arrive, but the replacement rim arrived today. It is noticeably wider than the rims currently on the tractor. Because the tires are still mounted, it’s a little difficult to accurately measure the width of the current rims, but when I tried, it appeared that they are at least 1” narrower than the replacement.

One of the pictures is of my attempt to get an edge-to-edge measurement of the current rim, which shows it to be in the area of 11.25".

I measured the replacement, and between bead seats (picture) it measures about 11.5”. Edge to edge it is about 12.75".

The new tires are 13.6x28 (for 12” rims).

If I do as a previous owner did and mount the 13.6x28 tires on what appears to an undersized rim, are there problems I can anticipate?

Such small difference in rim width isn't a problem. I find when mounting same size tires from different manufactures on matching wheels,75% of the time one tire is taller and/or wider than the other anyhow.

Rims are measured between the sides...ie, where the bead of the tire seats. Not on the outside of the lip.

3RD PIX IS A 11" RIM... Good for a 12.4 tire I would not run a 13.6 on it. I would have put 12.4's on it and been very happy.
I measure on the outside were the bead seats on all rims not on the inside. I cheat I have a rim gauge it measures the outside of the rim... Any good tire shop will have a rim gauge

You have one good shot at getting it correct never look back buy the correct rim...

A 13.6 tire is old size 12 inch.. You can run an inch wider or narrower than the rim, using old size markings. So an 11 inch rim can run a 13.6, which is a 12 inch old size marking tire.

Top picture is the way you measure a rim, you measure where the bead seats, not the outside edge of the rim. New rims the difference is closer to 1/2" per side of rim but the older rims were an inch or more. The rusty rim is a 10" and that is what is sold for replacement on the N series Ford that orignally had a 9" rim for a 10-12.4 tire but most have been replaced with the 13.4 that the tractor should have had when new. When they measure with the tool on the outside it is designed to take into consideration the bead mount thickness of the rim.
