706 problem

I have an old 706 international with a d282 that I woke up from hibrination. I bled the injection pump and changed the oils and filter but it won't start up without either. I know either is bad to use but that's the only way it will start won't even fire without it. When it finally starts up it will smoke white and miss fire until you rev it up and it will clear up. When it's warm from working it, it will start not as bad with no either use. I figured it could have a blown head gasket so I took the head off and changed the head gasket and while I was in there I looked at the sleeves and pistons and there was a little pitting in a couple pistons and no scoring on the sleeves but the head had a small hair line crack that goes from the injector hole to the exhaust valve it wasn't even noticeable until I cleaned the crap out of it and shined a light on it. I don't know if this could be the problem with the hard starting or if anyone had a better idea of what it could be before I spend the money of fixing it. Any idea can help

90 percent of those engines will have a cracked head and yes that is your problem. Thing is more that likely you just saw one. Hard to see head cracks, you saw the bad one probably more there. The white smoke is raw fuel before it warms up and goes to hitting. Should have carried the head to a shop while you had it off. More than likely it can,t be fixed. Now you will be out another head gasket.

they will not start without the glow plugs working. not even after shut down for 5 minutes.

If you are using the glow plugs as intended and also using ether, expect a large explosion one of these times and we may not hear from you again.
