MF 50 Value? Pictures

Looking at a MF 50, kind of a spur of the moment think, but I think I will get it? Here are a few pictures of it, story is that it is so low on compression it is struggling to run (like the notes on the hood?? :p) Chains come with it, has one nice rear tire, needs one soon from the picture. Don't really know what all else is up with it?

What is one of these worth? Never been around one this new other than a buddys 65 with a perkins diesel in it. Wondering if this one has live PTO?

Thoughts?

yes, they have Live pto,Ps was an option. The high ones bring less than the utilities.Running probably 1500 to 2000. Nice ones will bring in the 3000 range around here. They had a continental engine.Pretty easy to work on.

live PTO, 2 stage clutch, hi/lo trans. very strong tractor and parts are available. I guess the question is: How bad do you want it and how much are you willing to spend on it. I have a '57 and really like it.

I can't tell if that is a PS pump or the oil cap I'm seeing.

Having PS is almost a necessity.

The way the engine is made you can't add PS without cobbling something belt driven on.

If it doesn't have PS, that would be a deal killer for me.

Bryce,

I've got a MF50 diesel and it's a fine tractor (though mine's got a flat tire and starter solenoid issues.... )

Someone correct me, but I believe the model you are looking at is a high crop version. IMHO this is very good as if you are haying, driving over windrows, etc, there's less to catch on the underside. Also note the foot rest pedestals. These make for a most comefortable ride on a long day in the field. Sort of like prop-upping your feet on a motorcycle.

Check to see if is a multipower tranny. Some like them, I prefer the standard tranny. There is a cotter key that sets in a hole at the bottom of the bell housing. When you start it, watch for tranny oil coming out. The fix is a split and seal replacement. I really enjoy my model 50, for us the high/low gear ranges are very good. The 3pt hitch should come up and not be jerky, it will leak down.

Good luck,
Bill

Dad has the MH 50 that looks like it, has tire chains on it too. High arch, 3800 actual hours. No power steering but steers fine. Definitely want power steering with a loader though..

I can only read two of the numbers on the hood. #1 and #2
Even at those numbers, you're in for a rebuild.
Check the price of parts and machine shop work.
Unless you have a spare engine, that's an expensive project.
I love those tractors, but dollar-wise, not worth much here.
Parts price plus a little because I hate to see them scrapped! ;)

I would like to have one if it is a gas only. Just different sheet metal otherwise it is same as a Ferguson 40 and in the high version. Very nice tractor. The power train back to the rear end should be same as the TO35 and F35 and F40 if gas. Some later were diesel but don't know much about them but would not want one as I have no use for diesel. And I cannot tell from picture if gas or diesel.
