NH 315 Baler Pickup Tines Not Turning

Hello,

I recently acquired a NH 315 Baler. I baled about 200 bales with everything working fine, but now the pickup tines are not turning. Everything else seems to be working fine. Any idea why this would not be turning and picking up the windrows?

Thanks,

There's a slip clutch for the pick up head - it may need adjusting. Open the panels on the left side of the machine. You'll want to get a manual also - they're a big help. I can send you a copy of that page if you need it

The drive is going to need to be diagnosed by you. There is a sheet metal box on the right side of the pickup there are several chains sprockets and shafts inside. the
drive is not difficult to assess, but not over the internet. New holland on line link provided. Jim

Thank you Part Time Pete, I actually already bought a manual and just dowloaded it, but thanks for offering to send it to me. So I just have to loosen the the bolts and then re-tighten them and this will engage the spin wheel?

Thank you so much for your help. First time farmer and I'm learning on the fly with a lot of this repair stuff.

There is a good possibility that one of the pick up teeth is bent and in behind the guard they run beside. That will lock up the pick up wheel and is awfully hard to spot. Crawl under the rear and look at each guard completely around. Don't ask me how I know. Keith

I had a 315. I seem to recall the pickup reel had a shear bolt. I don't know. May have been the Case baler or the Oliver before that! The 315
was a good baler for a long time. I like my little bc5050 though

Gil,
Yes, you tighten the spring loaded bolts to make it slip less. It's to protect your pickup head so see if you can find anything binding. It may just be too loose, or as others have said, it may be slipping because something is jammed up
I've got a 316 which is pretty close to a 315 - they are a great baler

I got it working last night, tightened the bolts up a bit, but they seemed fine. There are a few bent tines, and one or two which are broken, which I'll have to replace at some point... But everything is working now so thank you everyone!
