Allis Chalmers PTO Installation

Hi,

I am installing a PTO unit back onto my CA. There is a sliding pinion that is on the tractor main shaft. I don't know where or how to place that sliding gear when I put the PTO housing over it. Any advice?

The lever that engages the PTO has to be fully in the engaged position and the shifter finger on the inside has to go in the groove in the shifter gear.

Thank you very much for the response. I am anxious to give it a try. Quick clarification question. If I take the hydraulic pump off, can I reach in to adjust it to put the shift finger into the groove or do I need to take the PTO fully off in order to get it aligned? Thanks again!

I never tried that! Not sure. I have set it on a floor jack and leaned over it as I twisted it one way and the other until every thing got in place. When I was younger with the seat off I could lift them up to get them on.

Thanks Dick. There was no shortcut, but with your advice, I was able to pull the PTO unit back a few inches and maneuver the finger into place. All is working!
