Tire Garden

This year we decided since neither of us are able to tend a big garden like we have for so many years, to just do a small raised bed one. I cut the side wall out of some old rear tractor tires (which was easy with a saws all) I had some horse manure left over from last year so I dumped it in them with the skid steer and there are tomatoes on and every thing else is in bloom. the zukini is in Full bloom as the pic shows. The last pic is of my helper, 19 months old and a head full of curly hair and PawPaws girl.

I tried using a tire for a sand box and didn't like it as the tire color (pc can't say name) got all over you and the kids.

Looks like you got the good out of those tires. What is the deal with raised gardens anyway? They must take a lot of water in a dry year.

Our reason for it is that the crop will fill the tire and weeds will be shaded out. For any weeds that do survive, we can just bend over a little and pull them. There is no hoeing or long rows to be cultivated (which we can no longer do). I do wish I were able to have a bigger garden but time and mother nature has said no to that. Keith
