Still make regular Diesel engines?

Long story short: a broken oil return line on the 323D JD skidsteer led to a fire. Insurance put 16k into it and got it going. I've had it back a week. I was using it to move some dirt and got out for a minute only to find that it was knocking and clattering BAD and had fluid pouring out of the skid plate (not to mention it sounded about like a two cylinder popper). It sounded like rod bearings. I couldn't hear it inside because the pump has had a really loud whine to it since I got it back. Who knows how long it sounded like that - I ran it about an hour and a half that day total.

The hydraulic is way low and the engine dipstick is completely covered. Oil is thin and smells like hydraulic. I'd say there are a couple of extra gallons in the crankcase and it puked out what it couldn't hold. JD came and got it again - "well, there must have been a seal that got hot in the fire that we didn't replace".

I'm guessing the engine is toast. Clearly it would need rods and crank, but the cylinder walls are probably scored as well. I don't know whether they would attempt to rebuild it or do a crate engine. Do they still make new engines that aren't tier 4 as replacements? It's about six years old with 600 hours on it. I'm sure putting a tier 4 engine with all of its accessories and a computer upgrade would total it out. I'd be fine with that. The thing has been a lemon since hour 1.

there are a lot of companies that sell remanufactured engines. jasper is one company. just google remanufactured industrial engines and a whole bunch pop up. they come with a warranty

In most states you can replace a non emission engine with the same for repair work.

Also most manufacturers still build non tier 4 engines for those parts of the world that don't regulate it.
