This afternoon a little after 4 a windstorm went through. Took a limb about 2' across off the maple just in front of my house and now my truck is covered with limbs, don't think too much damage as the main part went down just on the drivers side. But power lines down on it and wating on the power company that the sheriff deputy called to get them disconected as they are still hot. But cannot get into truck till limbs are cut. Tomorrow morning I have to go see the insurance company and file a claim on at least the power lines, from house to barn. I think when it went down it also took anouther tree about 8" diameter as it is not to be seen . Always sompthing.

At what point, does the duplex wire which feeds the house, become the homeowners property? My brother had a similar instance, and the power company told him that he owns it from the pole to the house that should help get you your answer. And don't ask me who I work for .CM

leroy,
I turned in three small claims in a 5 year period and my insurance company canceled me. It was next to impossible finding another company to carry me. Unless I have a serious claim, I'LL SUCK IT UP and take the loss.

I also changed my deductible to $1500 knowing I'll eat the small stuff and save on insurance premiums.

I know a co worker who had the same problem. 3 small fender benders, none was their fault, she got dropped too.

The way it works in my area, the power owns everything up to the riser pipe. I own the riser and all wires from that point. If my wires go down, the power company re attaches them. If my barn has a sub panel, it's mine. If my meter is on a pole, pole is mine and the wires going to the meter base are mine.

Power company was just out and where the lines are down cannot do anything. I had not gotten back home when the sheriff deputy had called them, I was sure they could not do anything. I don't think will be much if any dammage to truck and if we find none the insurance will just forget about it but I am going to have to turn things in on the wireing. If I was in good health I would just put the wireing I had put up back up but at times now I use a cane so no trying to climb a ladder.

Normally, any power lines after the meter are the responsibility of the homeowner. However, I've seen very nice power company employees that, as they already had the bucket trucks on site, would go the extra mile and get the lines in the air again. They just couldn't take responsibility for anything after that point, and the homeowner would have to hire an electrician to make final connections

After I got the down power lines dead today I could get up to the truck to see for dammage and the center of the top is like a sauser about 2-3" deep where a part of tree fell on it and bounced off. So things are turned in to insurance and the office thinks the insurance might pay for cutting the tree off the truck.
