Follow up on Chevy 2500 clutch/5 speed from last fall

I posted last fall about the clutch going out in my 2006 Chevy 2500. It's the 6.0 gas with the nv4500 5 speed. Well, it turned out that it wasn't the clutch, but the trans had completely grenaded. I mean was completely trashed. My mechanic(I don't have any good way of dropping a trans and right after it happen my job sent me out of town for 3 months so I hired it done) said he'd never seen one that bad. Nothing was salvageable but the case. It apparently had been leaking oil out the top when it was running. I had no puddles at home where I park so I had no idea, yeah, it was dry of oil. Well, I ordered a rebuilt one from High Gear Transmission in Memphis, Tn. Got it all installed, there was an issue of where the shifter mounted to the trans, apparently there's a long and short adapter. Mines was the long and they sent a short, but my mechanic worked it out with them and all was well.

Well, it's been about 9 months, and around 8000 miles. Starter went out on the truck last week. And when I crawled under it to change it, I notice the trans was leaking gear oil. So I took it back to my mechanic last night and we put it up on his rack. Sure enough, it's leaking from the top of the trans again. Somewhere around 2 quarts low. What gives? From what everyone says these are suppose to be one of the toughest trans out there, built for work. If I wanted to put a trans in it every other month, I would've just bought an auto. Truck currently has 120k miles.

We're going to pull the shifter tonight and see if we can get to whats leaking that way. Otherwise he's going to drop the trans again and go from there. Sometimes it just doesn't pay....

Sounds about like my experiences when I owned GM products. Sad but true.

So was that manual as much $$$ as an automatic ? A lot of the diesel clutches cost as much as an automatic transmission rebuild anymore.

I contact the transmission rebuild company and see if they have any ideas too.

Yeah that's thing, GM didn't really build the trans. The rebuilt one I got shipped to me for around $900 if I remember correctly. Maybe that was just the trans and then I had to pay some freight..

Already called the rebuild company. They said if its anything internal or a seal they provided they'll cover it...seem like good folks so far.
