John Deere B

What years was a rollomatic front end an option for the John Deere B. I am looking at a B right now that is for sale but the serial # is worn so I can't read it. I am going to take a pencil and a piece of paper and try to scratch over it and see what it says.

This John Deere B has the battery underneath the seat and has a rollomatic front end.

Thanks,

Les

When the went to the battery under the seat, ( Cyclone ) Model 1948/ rollamatic was a option..

Rollomatic was available from '7 til '52. The battery was under the seat during the same period. Rollomatic could also be retrofitted to earlier tractors. My grandfather had it installed on a '41 A.

any suggestions other then taking a pencil and scratching over the serial number to figure out what it is. the serial number is well worn.

You might be able to narrow it down a bit... if it has a factory water pump, it is a very late one. If it has cast rear centers, they came in two formats- one with 4 keyhole shaped holes, and one with the 4 keyhole shaped holes plus four larger round holes. The ones with round holes would indicate it is likely a '51 or later.

Our '47 had round rear axles, pressed steel rear wheels, battery box under seat. Water pump added some years after manufacture.

Our '49 has rollomatic, cast rear wheels square rear axles, and battery box under seat. I am lead to believe some with later serials came with earlier round axles. Changeover was some time near ours.

Our 49 B had the round axle, If like the A it was I think 51 for the change over from round to square.

Type of remote hose couplers also an indicator on year. and water pump can be put on earlier models, also round or square axles. Parts book will narrow year down, even small things like oil filler cap was changed for later from earlier.

I think you are right on the A... I think it is like 657000 something when the axle changed. We have an A, 648122, that my grandpa bought new. It has the single lever quadrant, but the round axle housing. I don't know when it was changed on the B.

Hey Ray, can you post the S/n of your '49 "B" , and does it have the square axles without the holes for clamshell fenders in the top of housing ? I have read that late '49 was change over for "B" and the first ones came without those fender holes. I have actually seen one personally like this. I would like to have actual documentation from another source alomg with a s/n. Thanks in advance. RB

I have a 48 B, it doesn't have rollamatic but it was an option back then. It has the battery under the seat and cast rear wheels.

I have a late 1949 B 248xxx dad got new ,It has the square housing no bolt holes for fenders all so has the later style hyd out lets battery under the seat and rollo matic

Dad had a 1947 B with Roll-O-Matic. I think Roll-O-Matic was introduced as an option in 1947, about the same time Deere went to the pressed steel front frames and the battery box under the seat.

Thanks for all the help.

Mine has the key hole and round holes on the rear axles.
Battery under the seat.
Red gas cap
Not sure about the water pump. What should I be looking at on that?
Rollomatic Front end.
No secondary kerasone tank to start tractor on.

I tried to use a pencil and a piece of paper on the serial number last night to tell what it was. The
serial number is to far gone to go over with it on a piece of paper.
