2320 John Deere temp gage

Has anyone installed a analog temp gage on a 2320? The grill and screen have a tendency to fill up with debris when I am using the belly mower. The sun light makes it very difficult to know if the tractor is running hot cause you can't see the light come on. I have never encountered a problem where a radiator screen fills up so rapidly. I have tried to mow on days when there is very little debris due to weather conditions and that doesn't seem to help. I make frequent stops to clean the grill, but would still like to know what the temperature of coolant is. If a analog gage can be installed, can you tell me how you did it?

It is easy. Just stick the gauge in a coolant port in the head. Lots of Deere machines with the same Dubuque or Manheim engine have a mechanical gauge.

Purchase a bulb type gauge. wrap it tight to a water pipe or hose with reinforced tape. Use insulating packing tape for airconditioner insulation (Sticky and flexible) to keep it at the temp of the hose. Mount it so you can see it. Jim

Why try to reinvent the wheel? The cylinder-head has a large coolant port at the rear, facing up. Deere uses that port for temp gauges. Sometimes an electric sender and sometimes a capillary bulb.

Actually no. Next time I better wear my glasses. Sorry about that. I thought it was a 2520 with a 219 engine. Sorry about that.
