Purchased a penfield tractor made by Burns manufacturing out of Louisville, Ga. serial #3019, model #23CB Tpye #707319. Does anyone know where I can get more info before we start on the restoration?

The Penfield line of equipment was made by The Burns Tool Manufacturing Co. in Louisville, Ga. That is about 35
miles to the east of me. They made mowers, rotary tillers, chain saws and maybe a few more pieces of outdoor
equipment that I can't recall right off hand. They went out of business in the late 50's I think. Been a long
time. The Tillers used Clinton engines and the saws used West Bend engines. They made a decent product but had
a very poor sales and marketing section. When i was in the saw business,I worked on a lot of the saws in the
course of a few years. They made both gear drive and direct drive saws. Their biggest problem was they used
fiber gears in the saw transmission of the gear drives and after about a year of use it would strip out. There
was a guy around here that used to bring his Burns tiller to me on into the early 70's before he finally wore it
completely out. It was almost impossible to get parts that were made by the company, engine parts were just run
of the mill stuff though. The products never sold very well even though they were slightly cheaper than the more
popular brands. There was almost no dealer support most of the time. Probably no information to be found either.
