Tuesday and Yesterday the first corn was planted around here. 4 different farmers were out planting. No dust though. Today was a real crappy day. Wind picked up about midnight and off and on light rain since, and continuing thru tomorrow. The big story was the nasty wind from the NE. Consistantly blowing at 20+mph since midnight. Any self respecting corn plant that was up around here probably crawled back in the ground.

There is some corn that has been in for a few weeks but quite a lot yet to be planted. As stated the weather looks poor and will continue to be poor for a few more days at a minimum. It would not be so bad but we no longer see the pattern of a poor year or two followed by a few good crop years. 2014 was an OK year but we had the hard droughts in 2012 and 2016 and really wet in 2013 along with 2015. Too many years like this is going to break my back financially. Even with crop insurance if you are at around 70-75 percent coverage and harvest 70-75 percent of normal you still lose on unrealized yield that the insurance does not catch. I don't know of too many guys who can run on 75 percent of normal year after year without an excellent non-farm income.

Many farmer in my area were able to plan over the weekend and the last few days. Sadly for me the man that is coming with his rock rake was in his field. Missed a nice weather window, now we are back to a couple of days rain. We have a weird spring most farmers will finish planting by mid/end june just on time to make hay if weather permits
