rotortiller king or country

I want to buy a rotortiller! 5 foot which is better? Country line at TSC or King Kutter at Family Farm and Home? I know there's better ones but one of these should last me! Large garden that's all I will be tilling? Thanks for your opinion! Matt

I believe the County Line from TSC has had several mfgs. Sometimes King Kutter, Behlen, and probably others. Whoever gives them the cheapest price. I've heard either one is good for the money though. I have heard but don't know for certain that the cheaper KK version isn't quick hitch compatible without some modifications. I think the KK pro is qh ready.

TSC nearby has been selling County Line tillers made by Tarter. I bought one, a 5 ft. two years ago. The tillers are very well made. The one I got is reversible. The only weak point is the seals in the gearbox. The gearboxes come from China shipped dry. The tillers sit outside and the seals harden. They recommend putting grease around them before filling. I couldn't get the level screw out on mine when I filled it and ended up over filling it and it leaked for a while. If you look at the reviews on this tiller you will see many complaints of burnt up gearboxes because the buyer did not bother to read the manual or the warning labels plastered all over the tiller and they ruined the gearbox after 15 minutes.

Jim, times have changed, around here anyway. The www says County Line but when you go to the store it's something with no name on it
and it has a Behlen Co. instruction manual in the little black tube attached to the unit so I assume Behlen makes them.

I bought a 6' this spring, 54 tines, seemed to be heavy duty enough, and did a lot of www shopping first. Went to TSC as they were local
and had 2 of the above in stock, $2k. Bought it, brought it home and put it to work.

I found that there are apparently several manufacturers that have a different way of supporting the structures but get it done anyway. All
seem to have the same imported gear boxes which seem to serve the purpose. Prices are similar that I saw. I did see a Red King Cutter at
another dealer later (didn't know KK painted some of their implements red) and it seemed to be a heavier duty with mounts for a 3pt quick
connect system like JD offers...neighbor has one on his new 4052. Didn't see nor check the price as I already had one.

I got mine home and put about 10 acres of Austrian Winter Peas into the soil....soil if you want to call it that; hard Houston Black Clay.
Never missed a beat. I did have to wear ear muffs the whole time.

Thanks everyone for your opinions, the county line is $50 cheaper then the king kutter up here in Michigan! So, I guess the king kutter would be my pick. Matt
