John deere running gears

I have been working on some old John Deere running gears cleaning them up for parades, hay racks, etc.
Currently have four of them on hand all are a little different. Any way to clearly identify what model they are?
I suspect one is a 953, others just not sure of them. Similar in make up, but some are a bit heavier and the wheel
rims are different. Any advice would be appreciated.

We have a 1065. Great gear. Have an older one too. The center caps on the spindle have JD cast into them. I have no idea of the model though. Would be interesting to find out though !

The newer 953 gears have different hubs and wheels than the older gears and pressed steel hubcaps where the older have cast hubcaps with JD cast in, The dish of the wheels is the oposite as well. The 952 is very simular but has a different hub.https://images.craigslist.org/00Y0Y_52GZJzaPiZX_600x450.jpg The 963 gear is heavier than the 953 but looks the same, one feature is the channel iron toung has a plate welded on bottom boxing it in for stiffing it. Thr 951 gear is forerunner of 952 And 953 but has a different steering atatchment for the toung. You can go to Deeres parts lookup site and print out ther parts book for free and it will show the different features.

The 963 gear will look similar in frame to the 953 but will have a hub similar to the 1065. There is also a 943 which looks much lighter to the 953. Don't remember what the ratings were but it was something like 4, 5, and 6 ton respectively. All three 900 series I mentioned were sold new at the same time.

If memory serves me there should be a tag on the left side yoke of the front axle. It is the brace piece that goes from the axle to the receiver for the reach pole.

Per owners manual the 953 is 4 ton at tractor speeds, the 963 is 5 ton, Don't know if the manual for a 943 has that information or not. I think if you check the parts book the hubs on 953 & 963 are the same, been a long while since I checked as I had what I thought was a 963 and I know a 953 bought new and hubs were the same.

B and D has the wrong numbers. According to Deere's online parts book, the wheel changes came out in '56. So your wagon was probably new, and not a holdover.

I'll check , I took txjims word for it on the year.

943 Wagon 1950 ? to 1962 ? with only plain bearing caps

953 Four Ton Wagon 1943 ? to 1966+ ? with the nifty JD bearing cap S2582 DW used until 1955.

My 953 with the generator on it is a 1954 or 1955 as it has the welded A 6142 DW welded Bolster and the JD bearing covers.

963 Five Ton Wagon 1948 ? to 1966+ ?. Doesn't show an end date with the JD cast bearing cover which was used on 16" wheels. The plain BP13226E was used after 1955 in 14" and 15" wheels.

1040 Wagon 1966+ ?

1064 Wagon 1958 ? to 1966 ?

1065 7 Ton Wagon 1964 to 1969?

1074 HD Wagon 1964? to 1966?
