Got this field in oats/barley and under seed with hay, just in time for a afternoon shower. I would say I did it all with my old equipment , but the equipment is all younger than me!!

You know we're getting old when our old equipment is younger than us. Guess I'll have to look at things in a different light.

The only difference between your rig and the uncle's is that they have a very early 5130 Maxxum with 2 post ROPs and canopy pulling the drill and they have a double roller Brillion packer.
Not quite sure , but, I think they finished up seedings today, and will move on to corn now.
Lots of dark clouds and rumbling going on in the sky north of us on the other side of the Mohawk River Valley/Erie Canal, and temps sored into the 90s here today. Back, Monday. I was still burning wood to keep the house warm. Hard to figure!!! Set a new record high here today.

Got a 510 IH drill like yours, good machine, but the front mounted grass seeder is a real pain to fill for an old fella trying to balance on the front hitch. Does yours have a rear mount grass seeder, or is that something else that I see there? Ben

Yup, Jim. They sprouted and flourished into 4020's and 1086's. Then they sprouted and flourished an had Maxxum's and 8000's. Them new ones must have college edumacations and don't work half of the time. They have such an ego that they can be finicky an require a rocket surgeon ta werk on em. Plus, now, Ma Deere sez thet the still belong to her an kin tell them not ta werk, soes iffen ya beat it wit a Crescent hammer ya kin be arrested......gimme mah 4020 back!!!!

I always figure 7% less actual acres then what shows on counter. So that means you have 26 1/2 acres On the end you lift the drill a little late and drop it back in a little early and without gps. you tend to overlap a little because you sure don't want any skips. I've checked mine many times and it works out to 7%.

good satisfying feeling, using the experienced machinery. i was disking with the dualed up 1206 tonight and my helper was planting with the 1456, while we watched the storm clouds coming. we got planted past the wet area that was just starting to dry out, before the rain hit.

How long does it take you to seed 28.5 acres with that? I'm thinking of getting a drill similar to that (I get my 50 acres custom planted now, I do the tillage) and just curious how long it takes you.

I couldn't agree more. A few years ago I made a rule that no tractor on my farm may be newer than me (I'm a '78 model myself) Then I broke down and bought a 1984 MF 250 loader this winter.....but my others are '75 and '77. The new stuff doesn't even interest me.

I really don't know how long it took to seed this field ,4-5 hours I guess. When
you are not getting paid , you just work till the work is done , it is all the
same . It takes time to get seed , time to get the drill out and put back , it
takes time to fill the drill. And of course , the actual time driving up and down
the field, it all takes time. Probably cheaper to hire it done , feels better doing
it yourself.
