DON'T run over your saw. The rest of the day is down hill from there.

priced an Oregon 20inch bar and chain for one of mine last year. That's going to hurt, is the rest of it ok?

looks like a super XL automatic,...I have one I use regular and it's a 1976 model....one tough saw, or until you run over them...

....well, the good news is....if ya had to run over it, you picked the right spot for the least damage....

I used to have a Poulan chainsaw. I ran over it with the tractor one day but I did it on purpose to put it out of my misery. Worst excuse for a chainsaw ever.

Might have been the best thing that you could ever do for it. I bought an electric el cheapo from HF. Used it once, then decided that it was too dangerous for me to use it with my health situation. Sent it up to my nephew on the farm; he's been using it to trim brush around the house. Easier than starting a gas chain saw for light work.

I know a guy who bought a new Jonsered saw, then ran over the engine with the rear tire of a M Farmall. Took it back to the dealer and thought he could get a new one under warranty. He was very mad when they didn't give him a new saw. It's hard to fake sympathy around him sometimes.

That isn't too bad. I have run over TWO poulan chain saws and they both ran afterwards. I have since learned to strap them down better :-(

I have a couple I still use once in awhile and about 3 parts saws, if you were closer you would be all set.

Well, now you went and made a new invention, a chainsaw that's good for cutting around corners!

Depends on where you buy them. One Local saw dealer sells packaged 20 inch Oregon chisel chain for $12. Bought a 14 inch chain from another dealer and he burned me for $23. Similar situation for bars, too.

Bought a new Stihl MS 290 about 10 years ago. Took it out the first day and backed over it with my trailer. Luckily it only broke the handle. Cost me $65 for the handle but could've been a lot worse.

I've got a Poulan (1st saw I ever owned) that I've kept around to lend to people who wanted to "borrow my chain saw"

Knowing my penchant for holding on to tools, wife saw it in the pile of stuff for the garage sale next month and said "WHAT? You're selling a chain saw???" I said "not really"

I know the feeling. Couple years ago brand new MS461 I tried to cut through a standing dead stump bout 20 foot tall. It would not fall over so I pushed it with the loader. Well it fell sideways onto the chainsaw that was safely out of range and cracked the handle. 200 some dollars later I had a new saw again.

Same saw I managed to pinch the bar in some standing dead ash trees. These are the ash borer trees so you never know what they will do. I took the powerhead off and went for backup. In the felling process I pinched the almost new bar and bent it. I probably should have had a plastic wedge with me and could have saved that bar.

I think the "homelite" saws you can buy now days are Ryobi. It's kind of like working on an old tractor. You can find most anything you need online.

When I had my construction company I did a lot of land clearing/burning.
Usually had a "sawman"(person) working with me.
Always told them "do not set the saw or brush fan down where I can reach it with the excavator" lotta times they did not listen

I was dragging a tree over to the pile and the tree rolled and it hit the saw. I also had the same thing happened to my extension ladder. It tore the end of the ladder open. I see it every time I use the ladder and it is a reminder of how quick and easy it is to damage things.

got a new jonserred. A month later went to cut wood for a cousin. Put saw in bucket of tractor and off I went across the field. Got there, no saw! Must have forgot it so drove back. On the way, found it, run over. Guess it bounced out of the bucket. You know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished!

(quoted from post at 11:13:35 05/15/17) Homelite? They haven't made their own saws in almost 40 years.

I was going to say it hadn't been that long, but then I got thinking about it. The XL12's were still being made into the late 80's. Might not be 40 years yet, but it's 30 anyway and getting close.

I'm getting old!
