Yes,it would be nice if they'd get together with the utilities and drain commissioner so they didn't have to tear it right back up for culverts or utility work.

Interstate 85 thru Atlanta scheduled to reopen this weekend.
Reported 3.1 million dollar bonus offered if repaired and opened before
Memorial Day.

They work in south La.The front end alignment guys have plenty of work, tire dealers stay happy too.

"Improvements" to I-5 in Tacoma have been going on non-stop for over 10 years. Various lane closures, detours, etc result in routine back-ups of 2 or 3 miles. Yesterday it was 9 miles (but to be fair, I think it also involved a wreck). No end in sight, to either the backups (literally) or the road work.

Around Austin you have to multiply cost and time by a factor of at least 2 on any road project. That's after the 5 or 6 years of lawsuits by one group or another that doesn't want the road built or fixed. Considering the traffic and cost of housing I can't believe so many people are duped into moving here. Actually I use to not live "here" but "here" has come out and surrounded me.

Worked in DC for several years. On major bridge (Roosevelt Bridge) leading out of DC, there was one of those inch-thick metal plates on there for a decade over a hole or crater in the surface of the bridge. Was apparently their idea of road repair.

John in La. -- *ROFL* That's a classic right there!

Can't count the number of times I've seen the road work signs out there, but no road work being done.......month, after month, after month! Sometimes I wonder if the contractors have figured out a way to add a charge to leave the signs up needlessly?

The hi-way just down from me. They started THREE years ago to replace a small bridge where a small lake drains. This bridge is maybe 20 feet long and four lanes wide. Two months ago they FINALLY opened all four lanes and we are a go. ...almost. The 40mph signs are still posted. There is NO work going on but it sure looks done. The cops still hang out there now and then. WHY??????

fines DOUBLE in work zones, we have had a sign here on hwy 38 that says road work next 60 mi for over 5 years, little jobs every now and then, revenue generator :?

I have to say something on this. I work for a large road/bridge
contractor. We try to complete the work as fast as we can
without cutting corners or dragging our feet. On large jobs the
signs stay up until the county or state is satisfied. If we do
small work the signs are taken down every night when we are done
for the day. That's the way it should be. I do it for a living
and also get annoyed seeing signs on the road when nobody is
there !

Sure wish I'd see more of those signs around here. There isn't a road or bridge in Branch County that doesn't need work somewhere.
