Cleaning a fuel tank out

Okay, I get the basic acid wash concept, but can I use a brass plug? I want to get my IH 240 tank cleaned good and have a brass plug in the bottom. I was going to put acid in it but then thought, humm... would that eat the brass or cause it to corrode to the tank?
 
When we cleaned the tank of our Massey we used
a piece of bunk chain put some fuel
In it and shook and rocked it for 5-10 minutes. It
was loosing its fuel before that and hasn't happened
since and that was over 10 years ago.
 
Actually an acid wash is a common way to clean brass. What kind of acid do you have in mind? Another thing that would help is to put a bunch of nuts and bolts in the tank and set the tank in the back of the truck for a couple days and let the vibration take it's course.
 

Muriatic diluded down. But really im trying to be cheap so if there is a better way to get a tankfull let me know.

Muriatic acid will attack brass and aluminum. Use a steel pipe plug.
 

Yes, like Rusty Farmall said acid eats brass. So yes you can use acid just don't leave it in for over six months. Now if it were aluminum you would want to keep it under an hour.

No longer than you are going to leave a brass plug in it, it would not be a problem.
