Any one play with Jeep fc170 forward control

As title says the cab over, forward control jeeps from 1950's early 60's. I know we have talked about the farm jeeps and early cj's on here. One of those FC170 came up for sale not to far from me and I am half tempted to go look at it. Some people call them rare others call them names that can't be used on here. I was around them some years ago
not really any expert. Any one have any additional information or parts sources on them.

I don't know anything about them really but I would think they are rare enough to be considered collectors items and if you can get one for a reasonable price in decent condition it would not be a money looser and it shouldn't be beat on. I don't think that many were made and at least around here (southern New England), they are very rare. Especially in decent shape.

Yes sir they have kind of fallen of the planet since the 70's early 80's. You are correct decent shape is hard to find. They did not make the production numbers jeep hoped for they sold well first 3 years than fell off. I did some looking and found they do not bring big money (barring aside the 100% original) May be they fit the category of "finding someone who wants them"

I would always have liked to have had some of them but no money to do anything with. Friend that is a big collector has one in the fire engine version and beautiful.

I have one, a 62. They are a pain to work on but a nice addition to my jeep collection. Somewhat rare here in Iowa but you see them now and then at shows. Mine has the 6 cyl which is a poor choice, I plan to change it over to a F-head as I have lots of them and they run forever. Brakes will be bad, they were marginal when new. Save yourself a lot of grief, just replace the entire brake system. Glass is still available. Check for steering issues, it used its own steering box and they are hard to find. I have some misc spare parts, seats, etc. Any other questions just let me know. Email is open.

How are the ones with the flat 4 in them??? I know there were several tranny options. Have you found any outfits that specialize in them for restoration parts? I did a quick search and found some stuff. What is the hard to work on part (cab over related)? Can you give me any rough values the one I am looking at does run has no body would need a flatbed. Seems major part are there. email is open. thanks much

Lots of good information and broad spectrum of vehicles for sale on www.ewillys.com. Also good sources for parts. David Eilers who runs the website is a great guy and he and about 25 other guys will be exploring the Alaska Highway in some vintage Willys this summer. There are several big gatherings every year in different parts of the U.S. of FC Willys owners and their vehicles.

Also......listen to what Doug is saying.

The really rare ones are the crew cab models made for the military and rail road work crews. Would love to have a FC150 or 170 some day.

there are 2 in my area, chassis is similar to a cj series, what ive been waiting for is somebody to put a tilt kit on the cab to make access easier

Local Chevrolet dealer had one fitted with a snowplow, and a couple derelect engines sitting in the back. Said it made a super dandy plow truck. With the short wheelbase and forward cab, I imagine that was the case.

1976 and older Jeeps will be a lot more difficult to find parts for. I bought a 1975 Jeep in 1998 and restored it. Now only about half the parts I bought then are easily found.

When I was a little kid, my father had either an FC150 or FC170. I forget which and what the difference was. Had a 4 cylinder that I think they called some sort of flame. Was loud in the cab, bounced you around, was nothing soft other then the seats. I remember the heater worked real well and in the winter it was virtually unstoppable. I'm guessing from memory that when it got up to around 50 MPH that the tachometer was pegged out. Wish I had it. That and some of the Studebakers that we had back then too...Larks, Hawks.

Good luck.

I always like the FC's. And the pickups. They were pretty common back in the day where I grew up. Hard to find now. I missed one a short time ago. Wish I'd got it.
