A good start on another tractor project.

A buddy of mine had his Case G310G dozer catch on fire in the woods when He was using it. It sat for a year, but a couple weeks back he got it trailered over here to me. I got it pushed back into my shop and today, I started removing all the fire damaged components. The engine appears to be OK. The radiator tanks appear to be salvageable and hoping that they can be used with a new core. Starter survived, however solenoid and bat cables didn't. Wiring harness is junk as are all the gauges and switches in the dash, plus distributer, mechanical fuel pump, which is NOS from Case, carb., alt., water pump, and oil bath air cleaner, are all destroyed. Plan to go to local tractor salvage yard tomorrow and find some of these parts. My buddy handed me some C notes to buy the propriatory parts, and he has connections to buy all the generic parts like gauges, wire, hyd. hoses, alternator, etc. I will fab up a new wiring harness, as it is a simple 12V ignition system with a Delco 1 wire charging system.
The undercarriage is excellent other than one bottom roller. When it is mechanically healthy again, it will get a new paint job.

That will be a neat project ! I always thought about buying a small dozer like that for the farm but we bought an excavator instead. Keep us posted with lots of pics ! Good luck !

I am far from complaining. If it was a JD 350, I would be trying to figure out how to put new threads into the tranny where the studs connect to the torque tube.

All joking aside those 310 series were popular. But around me dozers have gone out. Kind of liked case oliver and deere in the small dozens. Cats ac ac and I have came in with a little heavier stuff.

Looks like quite a project Loren, Hope your ticker holds up!! The last green Deere crawler I saw was a 430. TOY.. Massey will make you Sassey. Perkins V-8.---Tee

You defiantly have more ambition than I have. If that was my dozer it would be sitting in the woods long after I am gone to my just deserts. I hope that you finish this project and many others and from your past projects I know it will be done right.

I LL bet it turns out great,,,your the man that can do it ,you got my bet for sure,,just take it a little easy for a while, listen to the doctor.I would have gladly helped you take it apart,,Im pretty good at that,,,but I cant put it back together,,,lol

Dennis, I have a lot of seat time in a Fiat FD30 dozer with a BIG V8. It moved a massive amounts of dirt every pass, but you had to run it from the "seat of your pants" because the corners of the blade were not visible from the seat. The cab offered hardly any visibility of the blades cutting edge.

A neighbor had a Case 310. Pop had an OC-4. They worked them side by side on joint projects several times. Couldn't find much fault with either one. It was obvious they were two of the best small dozers on the market at the time. Not many small dozers left that size anymore. My OC-4, a few 350 JD's around yet. Almost nothing newer. See quite a few small track hoes around now days.

I hope that Perkins V8 is better then the one we had in an 1155 Massey. That thing would run like scalded dog till you needed torque then it fell on its face. It was good for running a PTO lagoon pump full of hog crap.

Loren, I shipped out an FD30 and an FD41 at my last job. The 30 is a good sized dozer, but that 41 is a real good sized dozer. Can't remember, but it seems as it had a V8 as well.

How many dollar bills should I bring? I think you are not far from strawberry, should at least run over and kick the tracks some time!

Loren,
Hope it better than the pics show. You're going to need a lot of lipstick to make that pig look good again.
You can't just say NO to friends wanting something done? I wish I could.

How old is the crawler? I remember when some farmers used crawlers because they farmed fields that were wetlands that were drained by ditches and pumps.

Big ole Deutz V-8 I spent some time in one of those FD-30's down in NJ in the early 90's. Former landfill tractor. One job they sent it to an overgrown field or lot, several acres of overgrowth and told me to clear it. I did, but hoped there was nothing hidden in there because you could not see much from that cab. I preferred the D8K, spent a lot more time on those. Fat Allis as we called 'er also seemed to gel up more in the winter, whereas the D8K seemed to keep the fuel line warm enough once up to operating temperature and being put to work. First time sitting behind that V-8, sure seemed different than an in-line engine powered tractor. It certainly pushed a blade full.

I have heard tales of someone using an old Army surplus tank to work ground in the Funk Bottoms near me. I guess a long time ago they grew vegetables in there ?
