Lift problems

I have a Ford 8N that has been a dream to own. I
have however developed a problem. I was using my
boxblade to pull a stump already out of ground by
lifting and dragging with straps. Was successful. Set
blade down, went in to eat breakfast and upon
returning to move tractor to next project my lift won't
go up. I changed fluid, seen nothing obvious inside
inspection plate and put back together. Lift functions
fine without attachments on it. When weighted with
attachments won't go up unless to take some
weight away by assisting however once up you can
shut tractor off and lift holds without going down.
Any ideas?

Does your PTO shaft turn when you try to lift the weight?
Any chance your coupler has rounded out on the drive shaft inside by the pump?.
Just one thought.

Pull the inspection plate off the right hand side down by where your heel would be. Start it up and with something heavy on the 3 point watch for a lot of fluid moving. Or dripping down from above. Where ever you see a lot of fluid moving that is where the problem will be. Could be as simple as a sticking control valve which you can reach in and move by hand or a stuck relief valve or a blown pump gasket. I had one that did that and found it had a blown pump gasket so I replaced it and while I had it open did the new improved NAA piston and o-ring set up

Agree with other posters and would say that piston seal is not the issue Think OLD is talking about the valve or relief that used to stick on them.
