Plowing and Apple Bossoms

We've had a few warm days north of the border. Apples are in full bloom and I plowed for my neighbor so he can lay plastic mulch and plant tomatoes for their organic farm market

Sure is purdy around there! On the plow what is the green painted pipe like thing above the tail wheel for?

The pipe is filled with concrete. It helps hold the back down. They disced it yesterday and started laying plastic mulch ready to plant tomatoes this week.
The apple variety is Royal Gala. They are planted 3 x 11 and supported on posts and wire. Most work is done off the ground or short ladders.

They do that in Japan too. Far more control of the small trees. I thought that pipe was a Jato rocket pack.

Good old DC4. Very reliable but a real "Teddy Roosevelt". Nice to see it still out there working in that nice soil that doesn't come off the moldboards in slabs like it did on most of the land that we farmed.
