that is a brush scythe. The shorter thicker blade type is kinda rare but not that scarce. Prolly a typo for $5. or $50. Now he's in dreamland. $15 is a stretch.

I had noticed that short blade and figured that it must be super rare.
 
Wow, how come all the good deals on stuff is in Spokane. We never get any of those over in central Washington.
 
Right, my Grand-dad always used to call the short bladed scythe the "brush hook". As soon as the snow was gone we used to have to patrol the fencerows and hook out any new scrub brush making sure to smash the stubs so they couldn't puncture a tractor tire when plowing or mowing next to the fencerow which we kept trimmed back. Now it seems farmers just let the fencerows get wider and wider, then after a few years clean them back or get rid if them completely with the backhoe/loader tractor most of them seem to have.
 
Maybe you meant that he had a head full of worms for asking that price. I wonder what "completely gone through" means to him. It hasn't even been washed for the photography.
