Hello, I just started a Ford 8n that has been sitting all winter and it made a slight knocking sound or raddle I just thought it was the loose cover because i could shake it by hand. I did drove it to a gas station and back which was maybe a half a mile round trip and put the rotary mower down, engaged the PTO, and didn't even make it 3 feet at the motor locked up. I can shake the crank shaft pulley with 2 fingers so it is loose. In 4th gear I can turn the motor by pushing on the back tire but it catches in a certain area. What should I do?

Does this "In 4th gear I can turn the motor by pushing on the back tire but it catches in a certain area." mean that you have one rear tire jacked up, transmission in 4th, and you are attempting to turn the engine by turning the tire? But that when it gets to a certain point in turning it clunks to a stop? If this is the scenario, most likely you have a broken connecting rod.

Put in neutral, put the clutch in and push the starter button. See if the engine will turn over with the clutch engaged and the trans mainshaft not turning.

(however, 'knocking' sound doesn't bode well).

Report if the engine will turn over with the clutch pushed in.

#1 push the clutch pedal down and try to spin it over. If it spins that way then the problem is from the clutch back to the rear end/PTO
#2 if it does not spin over that way pull the oil drain plug and catch the oil and look for metal shavings and or a silver shine to it.
If no metal shaving etc does it have any water/coolant in it?? Also try pulling the plugs out and try spinning it over with the clutch pedal help down
