Hi I have a question I bought a used tractor and the hood is painted as a 990 David Brown CASE how do you know how old it is and how can I check it out.

It's a good running tractor and I got it to mow and bush hog a 4 acre field

Any help

Need the serial number to know age for sure. Pictures and I could get you close. Spin on oil filter or cannister, 4/47 or 4/49 engine, steering cylinder design, front axle design, hood design, power steering pump design... Lots of running changes.

As far as I know, 990s all left the factory with either "DB" decals, or "Case" decals, not both. The "Case DB" decals are an aftermarket thing.

Depends on market I think, tractors sold in G.B and here in NZ were labeled 'David Brown Case' with Case being on a smaller decal, then the
Case wording got more prominent when the 'Q' cabbed tractors came out in 1976, then by the time the 1494s etc came out labeled as Case with
David Brown in smaller writing until Case IH, but I see photos of tractors for the North American market as Case even on the 885 thru 1412
range etc.

I have had 2 original paint 1975 990s, US sold originally, both have just the "CASE" decal. 72-73 would have had the Bottle opener "DB" decal. Maybe 74 was both here, maybe it came out of Canada...
