Water heater cost me a tractor Rant

I hate water heaters, they seem to go out at the most inopportune time. Monday morning I convince the wife I need another tractor, she informs me that we had no hot water. Wife is still working, I'm retired. Knowing I must make the wife happy before I can go look at tractors I start the process of trying to get someone out to replace the water heater.

In the interim I'm checking out Craigslist. See a really good looking Ford 3000 for a good price just listed. I can't go anywhere because I'm waiting for a durn water heater, this was the first appointment on Monday. Starts getting late in the day so call, nobody knows anything, now Monday is over. Tuesday, call another plumber, promises me they will be out that day. Starts getting late Tuesday so I call, OOPs they forgot about me. Call a another plumber, says he will be out on Wednesday. Finally have hot water late yesterday.

This morning I get an email from the Craigslist guy, Tractor was sold yesterday evening. #%$&*^%

I'm sorry. Console yourself with the idea that it really needed a lot of work. I just bought a very nice looking tractor for $6000 and drove it home. I've been working on it for weeks, and will spend over $1000 in parts.

Bob,
It takes me more time to go to town, 4 miles away, and pick up a new water heater, than it does to install it. I use electric water heaters, two flex water lines. I first run a hose from heater to drain and start draining it before I go to town.

You could have told wife you were on the way to town to buy water heater, only to stop off and buy a tractor. Sorry for your loss.

hay what you dont get or what you dont have never causes any problomes. wouldnt worry theres anouther tractor around the corner.

Mine is I either have the money and don't have the time or I have the time and don't have the money. LOL

I am 73 years old, 6 foot but only weigh 145. The heater is in a closet in the bathroom. If I had any chance at all to geterdone I would have. Took two young guys to get the old lime filled heater out of the house. I knew I didn't stand a chance of being able to deal with it. If it wasn't for the loader on my Ford 3000 I probably wouldn't be able to get anything done if it involved anything over about 40 pounds.

Bob,
I'm 68, 6 ft and 170#. I would have used a 2 wheel appliance cart and hauled it out by myself. Water heater full of lime is lighter than a refrigerator.l

BTW, I have a 50 gallon water heater sitting in the garage with all the hoses I need to install it.
Sooner or later my tenant is going to tell me his went out.

I like a basement when it comes to water heaters. That way if they leak, very little damage to concrete floor. Easy to work on too.
Sometimes I may need help getting the old one up the stairs.

If mine were in a closet, I would be looking for a better place.

Too bad you lost a tractor.
geo.

Ours is on the living floor as we have no basement so when we did some remodeling a few years ago I put a drip pan under it and ran the drain to the sump in the crawl space.
