Anyone Worked On JD 450 Drill?

I finally got the parts for that seed drill I have been working on. I need to replace 5 seed cups are the far right end of the drill (passengaer side from back)

Looks to me like I am going to have to remove the left wheel/tire, and then the left hand side cover, then slide the shaft out the left side of the drill.

My thought was though, COULD I move the shaft to the left JUST enough to be able to slide one cup over the end of the shaft? Then work that cup across to where it needs to be, attach it, and repeat?

The reason I ask this, is because it appears as though the flutes, and the stops are held onto the drive shaft with cotter or roll pins, in theory, I am thinking I could just remove the far left hand set ONLY, slide the flute and the stop to the right until they hit the next flute, and then slide the shaft to the left as far as it will go?

Anyone think I can do it like this?

Other question I have are the fertilizer drop funnels / cups. Looks to me like they were just riveted on there? Is that right?

Thanks!! Bryce

Hi,are you talking about the hay seed box? We just finished repairing ours on an 8350 JD and only removed part of it. We took the seed box completely off the drill to make it easier to work on. The pins in ours are actually machine pins like pieces of heavy wire. JD sells them 5 or so in a bag,I ground one side off and drove them through with a punch. I used vice grips pushing on both ends at once to curl them (takes 1 or 2 for practice). I'd have to look at the fertilizer flutes but I don't think they're attacked too heavily, not really any pressure on them.
