8X28 wheels

I will be getting 8X28 F & H round spokes for an f-20. My question is will 11.2- 28 tires work? If not where can I get tires that will fit on the rims.

They will work but a little small. I would look for 14.9 x 28.

An 11.2-28 tire would work on the 8" wide rims but it might look a bit rounded and pulled in at the beads since that size of tire is designed for a 10" rim. Even a 12.4-28 would probably work but anything larger could start looking odd on a rim that narrow.

I think you have that backwards, Vic.

An 11.2x28 specifies a 10" rim right on the sidewall. Really it's too wide for the 8" rim, but it will work.

I've wedged 13.6x38 tires on a 10" wide rim. It's no picnic. I can't imagine a 14.9x38... and that's a THIRTY-eight inch rim.

Remember when those wheels were made the tires were designed for a rim perhaps 2/3 as wide as the tire and a tractor like an F20 would have had a tire of a size like 12.75 or 14.00 on it from factory. Now those tire numbers were figured on hight of tire not width and a 12.75 would be more like a 14.9 in width, you would still be a bit short on height but it would be close to having the correct pull in on the sidewalls for the 8" rim. That is what I would put on in a 14.9 with no smaller than a 13.6. Don't have my books handy that gives all that information but these books were printed over 60 years ago.

A 14.9 on an 8" rim is just plain wrong. a 14.9 belongs on a 13"rim. In a pinch, it could go on a 12" rim. A wide tire on a narrow rim leaves no sidewall stability.

Remember, going too big on tire size is like changing your ring and pinon to a higher ratio (lower numerically) and will put more load on your clutch so try to find an 11.2 with a diameter as close to stock as you can. I knew a guy that put 13.9s on a Case VAO and tore the clutch out pulling a v-ditcher that he had used for years with the original 10- 28s. :shock: [i:fca96f297c]MILLER TIRE[/i:fca96f297c] should be able to help you in your quest.[/i]
