Injector issue?

I have a John Deere 3130 that has started making what sounds like a slight knock/rattle sound. It also has blueish white smoke at an idle. It seems to run fine and isnt using antifreeze or oil.

I'm thinking it might be an injector or injection pump issue.

What do the experts say?

You may be right, probably a poor spray pattern on one. Crack each injector line one at a time and see if anything changes. If it does change on one cylinder, swap that injector into another hole and crack them open and closed again one at a time, see if the issue moved with the injector. If it did, it's the injector. If you haven't changed the injectors lately, it's a good idea to do that anyway. Injectors do wear out over time, and they aren't particularly expensive for older tractors.

(quoted from post at 21:00:16 04/11/17) Yes, could be over fueling on an injector, crack each one loose and see if noise goes away.

How does a pre common-rail injection engine with a distributor-type pump "overfuel" on an injector?

Dribble, have low crack pressure, or a poor spray pattern, YES, but how's it gonna "overfuel", may I ask?

Bob, maybe you're looking into David's
comment too deeply, he's just trying to be
helpful, not instruct him fully on how a
diesel engine operates. I'm assuming he just
means having a low crack pressure and or
pintle stuck open, fueling when or as it
shouldn't be, just p!ssing fuel in, unlike
how it normally would work.

Mr. Bewts, DavidG is fully aware of how diesel engines operate and doesn't need an advocate.

I asked a simple question about his previous reply as a learning experience/clarification and he has chosen not to reply, which doesn't surprise me.
