Perkins 3.152 water pump

Is there a way to check and see if my water pump is still good? Are the water pump on these engines rare to go out? I'm putting a new head on my Massey Ferguson 35 diesel, and before it was cracked. That is how I bought it was with a cracked head, I just don't want to start it with my new head and find out I have a faulty water pump. Thanks for the help guys

The water pump has weep holes so if the seals start going out you will see some coolant coming out of the them. But you never with a water pump that you don't know how old it is. It always seems like if you don't change it while you have it apart it will start leaking soon after you get it back together, and running it again.

After you put it together with it up to temperature it should be moving water at a rapid pace if not it needs looked at. Won't hurt the head for the trial run to look at the pump.
