Hi, I have converted my TED 20 to 12 volts as much of the 6 volt system was faulty. However the new 12 volt starter is not meshing with the ring gear every time. On looking at the teeth on the ring they are worn out and I am intending to replace it. Can anyone tell me if I should replace the ring gear with a 6 or 12 volt one, question being is there any difference in overall size of the ring other than teeth quantity .Thanks

I never heard of there being a difference in a starter flywheel gear being different with a 12 volt system and a 6 volt system. I have never heard of a Ferguson TED 20 although I do know that there was a TO 20 and a TE 20.
You may want to check the parts suppliers again

I think the starters will not interchange, there is a special starter available for the 6v to 12v conversion that is different to a 12v
starter for fitment to a 12v tractor. If you have fitted the 12v starter intended for a 12v tractor it wont work.
