American resturants

I will tell you this much, there was a Chinese restaurant right here in rural Michigan where the owner was busted a few years ago for that. I was in the Secretary of States office one day when he came in trying to get a drivers license for a woman who wasn't even with him. He claimed she had lost hers and he needed a new copy. I learned later it was him when he was busted.

As for illegal aliens, they shouldn't be here to begin with. That said, there should NEVER be a time when someone is "forced" to work or do other things, illegal or not. The one exception is when we all are "forced" to work for a living. Not even gonna get started on "hard labor" inmates.

As long as we continue to punish/deport the employees and wink at the employers, there's no way to control illegal immigration, human trafficing, slavery, etc.

Yes. But often when employers exercise their judgement and don't hire those they suspect are illegal they are then prosecuted by the department of labor for discriminating.

When I managed ag ventures, we would get employees who were very clearly illegal. Their IDs were laughable forgeries but if we did not accept them, we were the target of whatever agency issued the document saying we weren't experts in forgeries. This is true, but most of us know SSN cards are not multi colored.

It is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

I really think the bulk of these cases are a matter of people from their own countries coming here then bringing more of them over and enslaving them.

Oh! They are the worst. I have seen foreman demand part of a paycheck for hiring someone. In other words, the Mexican foreman hires the Mexican laborer and demands $50 or more off every paycheck. I had another foreman who told employees they couldn't drive to work that they had to ride with him. He would overload his van with 13 or more laborers and charge $75 a week for the ride. I could not figure out why a foreman would be so angry when I changed contractors. Turned out the contractor I replaced was giving him a kickback. I have seen child labor, several people working under one SSN number, etc. It is amazing how much management turns a blind eye toward this stuff too.

where I live at there is very very few non white americans, just how it is.a Asian restaurant moved into town, they cvontacted my business for new flooring in there restaurant.i went and gave them a estimate, got the job.my men and I were never treated so well by customers before, only thing I seen odd was after a few hrs we noticed it sure looked like there was 50 people living upstairs,i asked the guy I was dealing with if they were a family ,he said they were going to work for him, being there 2 days and seeing all the activity,we only heard 2 people make a sound, and only 2 made eye contact with any of us.....

Such things are wont to happen when folks do not follow the law of the land.

More fake news...they work at a restaurant and then turn around and draw welfare benefits. Heck their health insurance plan is better than anything I've had...it's all free.

I remember my mom talking about grandpa (her dad) working in the 1930s as a carpenter. One guy he worked for was paying him 50 cents per hour. When he talked to the owner of the property they made a comment about him taking a break for lunch and said Im paying a dollar an hour for that. I guess the other guy was pocketing the other 50 cents.

Umm yeah that's how business works, when you go get your car fixed at the dealer do you think the mechanic makes 95 bucks an hour, no the dealer does and pays the mechanic less of course

What's the big deal, they are for the majority illegals and get what they deserve. Nobody made them forced them to go to the USA, guess they should have stayed home.....

Yep, listen to talk radio and everyday people want the illegal situation stopped. But who fixed their roof last month? and who will trim their trees tomorrow?....but that is different....because that is their own dollars.

As for slaves, we don't allow slavery in our country. But we buy $billions worth of goods made by "almost slaves"
in foreign lands.....but it is OK because it is cheaper! and It is our own personal dollars.

Money talks....the rest is BS.

I do not know where you live but the people who fix our roofs or our tires are all normal Americans who speak English as their first language and were born citizens. To many time those who live in areas where illegal workers are common and protected from the INS believe that is the normal for all of us but believe me it is not. A few farmers yes, but most business NO!

Yes, I resent your implying that I or my neighbors use or misuse illegal immigrants.

You may resent it, but reality is, that in many areas of America no one else will get on a roof, or seal a driveway or climb a tree. I know several people that talk tough about dealing with illegals, but when they have no choice, or especially when the price is better, they hire the illegal.

As for the things we all buy, imported from all over, none of us has any idea of the working conditions under which those cheap products were produced. Like the 1129 people killed in a garment factory collapse in Bangeledesh in 2013.
Did you or I buy those clothes...who knows?

I agree, but you need to add some to your list: wash dishes, make hotel beds, milk cows, pick fruit and veggies, work at the meat packing plant, etc. Unless you are native American, you are the descendant of an immigrant. Unless they fro mthe British Isles, they probably didn't speak English. Guess what- they probably didn't learn it right away, either. ( My family spoke German in the home for 40 years after arrival- and it was only when my grandfather (3rd generation in the states) went to school and new no English that things changed.) And they probably came without a lot of money, and took low end jobs. Yes they maybe got here legally, but laws were different then too. No different than now, business wanted labor, preferrably cheap.

Sad to say, but that human trafficking stuff probably took place then, too. Many industries recruited in Europe and other places for workers back in the 1800s- mining, railroad building etc. Copper mines in the UP had at least 12 languages spoken in the mines in the late 1800s.

I hate to ask this question: Are you in a place where there are no Illegals because there are also no citizens? No work? No jobs?
In many geographic areas of the USA, there are fewer and fewer people, population is declining, stores are closed, main street is GONE! There are no illegals there, because there is nothing there anymore for anyone.

Sad, but I can give you a list of 1000 dying communities and villages like that, and a few (total)no growth states that are following close behind.

1950 was a wonderful time...but it is gone.

You must not live in a heavily populated area, on the east coast, California, and Arizona most people doing the work don't speak english as their first language. They might be citizens or have green cards, but they are not caucasians of northern European descent!

That article is a misrepresented pack of lies. If there are any mistreated or exploited workers in restaurants it will be there own people doing the exploiting, most likely chinamen taking advantage of illegal chinks or Mex's working wetbacks for low pay and long hours, they probably sponsored them or paid their way here. Every culture/race are their own worst enemy, ask any African how they like being ruled by other blacks.

Yes, my grandparents came to this country from Sweden. They landed at Ellis Island in New York. That is where they were given physical examinations and if they didn't pass, they were sent back. Once processed, they were "legal" immigrants as were millions more who immigrated to this country. Today it's different, many come here illegally, no health checks and no controls as to how many have come or are coming. Some say there are 11 million illegal immigrants in the US, but my guess would be at least double that.
We shouldn't blame the illegals for being here. If I lived in Mexico and worked all day for $10. for the days work. I would probably want to come too. It's the fault of government from allowing it to happen for the last 30 years. Now that so many have been here for so long, many elected officials want to reward them for their mistakes of allowing this to happen. These people knew they were breaking the law when they came here, so they shouldn't be surprised if they get sent back home. Just because they've lived here for years shouldn't give them a free pass to stay. It has gotten completely out of control now. The illegals in many cases are treated better than our citizens as far as government handouts. Food stamps, free medical, rent, education and much more. My grandparents, parents and myself paid taxes our whole lives and did any of us get any of these freebies? No! We paid our way. So it is frustrating when people come here and get on the dole right away, and probably stay on the dole for generations to come.
I can see helping Americans who need help but not people who aren't supposed to be here in the first place.

Our costs of living are not their costs of living. Our standards of living are not their standards of living.

It may be unfathomable for you to think of living off $10/day, but in Mexico you'd be doing okay. Same thing in China; you think $3/day or whatever is "slavery" but over there you have disposable income on that wage.

I agree with much of what you have said about how we go into this mess. My experience with many many illegals is that they are NOT on the Dole, contrary to popular discussions. They are generally very hardworking, extremely reliable (show up every day) and learn to do the task quickly. They are also very committed to their family (not true of many citizens that do not support their multiple off springs). These people have many of the traits we need in America.
Why can't we develop a guest worker program, register them, make them pay taxes, track them, and let them work and contribute to our economy? They will do the jobs Americans refuse to do.
Instead, we have argued in DC for 30 years and accomplished nothing. That is how we got into this mess.
We want to close the barn door now that the cow is loose.

Several years ago there was a major meat packer that was hiring Illegals to replace american meat packers. Immigration was informed but told the people that there was nothing they could do about it because it would hurt the company. So the employees unionized the illegals the next day they started to deport them because the company had to pay them legal wages.
