Don't know why the other is blocked. They did have supply trains for 5he DEW LINE instalations. These monsters there were only a few built. A set of four of these tires are mounted on a big foot monster truck. Dont know about going to the south pole unless it is some crazy person. The gang from top gear took a dog sleid and a super tricked out toyota pickup to the north pole several years ago. They reached 90? north.

Lead by Edmund H****** of Everest fame. 3 Ferguson TE 20 s equipped with half tracks drove over 1200 miles at 10 000 feet elevations in minus 40 weather...without missing a beat . New Zealand expedition in 1957. Would any of us drive their tractor there today? Ben

Yes i added to 5he other post. No I would not go. You guys know what blood thinners do don't you?

There was a tractor that made it to the South Pole in December 2014. It was driven most of the time by a woman from Europe. She may have been from Denmark or Netherlands? She had seven or eight support people with her not to mention 2 four wheel drive pick-up trucks and one 6 wheel drive truck to pull the tractor out when stuck. The support people included some engine mechanics from the MF factory. Tractor was a 5610 , it had been somewhat modified not sure what all but super sized cab heater and fuel line was preheated somehow. The tractor engine was never shut down for any of the trip. There was MF corporation backing for the trip for promotional purposes this was a new model they wanted to showcase. The crew endured extreme cold & extreme wind chill, but had arctic attire & sleeping bags to keep warm or to keep from freezing to death. Some of the crew were navigation people checking ahead of the route for safe passage of a 4 wheel drive tractor. I think they had fitted oversize radial tires for the tractor but it was not on tracks. I would not want to go, these people were rather young, full of energy and adventure, big risk takers.

A lot of the snowmobile trail grooming especially in Quebec is done with farm tractors with tracks. If you google Catco All-terrain you will see what replaced the Letourneau. to restock arctic stations.

The first group from 1957 had just a canvas enclosure on the tractor. No support group, they kept the batteries inside overnight. Used a sextant to navigate. Abandoned their Weasel because it broke down. Ben

Be a fun trip to start, boring as all get out in the middle, glad to finish.
I assume they had to drive all that stuff back north.
