Tire / rim question

I have rims on my one 300 utility that
are the style with loops holding the
rim to the stamped steel center. I
would like to swap the rim to the other
side of the loop. The bolts are beyond
rusted and nut and bolt removal looks
to be break them off by twisting or cut
em with a torch or possibly a grinder
with wafer wheel. I'm wanting to do it
without dismounting the tire from rim.
They are loaded and I would rather not
have to screw with that. Any thoughts.
I know the welding on rims topic has
been beat to death but this seems
different.

That's what my thoughts were too. I guess I I was looking for a vote of confidence lol. All I'm cutting is the bolt not the loop or the rim. I have tried to turn them and the old bolts are square heads so not much grabs em well.

I'm good with a torch I just don't want any issues. I like a wafer wheel grinder bout as much as I like smashing my hand with a hammer. I don't think the rim would. E taking much heat from the torch flame as long as I cut along the side of the reimbursement rather than right at it

With liquid in the tire, it really can't get seriously hot from grinding if you work with the Loop on the bottom (submerged in that area) to cut each bolt. Turning the wheel so that loop down is the key. Jim

I have a 300U. Have an idea what you are doing. Use a 4 1/2 grinder with Sait .o45 cut off disks. Cut very well and that thin cut makes quick work. A very big danger are those loaded wheels. You are well into the neighbor hood of 1/2 ton or more in weight. If it even thinks of moving you will be a BUG ! Why do you want to widen the stance? Am I guessing wrong?

I'm widening to accommodate for tire chains between the fenders. The fenders are as close ttothe inside as they can be. The setup now looks to me about as narrow as can be done. I'm only wanting to go a couple inches to gain clearance for the xhains. I swapped the wheels side to side last fall and it's nice but way too wide looks like the other side of the loop would make it the least amount wider and still do the job.

With the grinder wheel you can just cut down the side of the nut then probably unscrew it.No damage to the rim or the tube. A torch will likely ruin the tube from heat. Even with it down so the water is on it. With the nuts cut along the bolt you can probably save the bolts to reuse.

I agree with the cut-off wheel. yes the liquid should pull the heat away, but the video how fast the pressure builds and it blows is really scary. Yes, be careful handling the tire, but it is nowhere near as bad as a 38. Don't let anybody help. Suddenly you are pushing in opposite directions. I am sure you have experienced that!
